Why I am drawing a blank on the name of the place I want to recommend? It's on 52nd, just a stone's throw east of Studio 54. Wait, Iguana? Does that sound right? I've been there a couple of times and thought it was excellent. Good Mexican, great desserts and drinks.
I also went to Sardi's for the first time a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Excellent service and quite good food.

Oh darling beware of Iguana.
The waiters spill. I went there with a client last year and the waiter spilled a glass of water on him. I hate that place.
They spilled a whole glass on a big theatre Producer. This Producer only wears custom made suits. I wanted to crawl under the table.
My company had barter there so we had to entertain there!
Everytime I went there something weird happened.
OH GOD please don't go on Valentine's day.

Posted: 12/24/03 at 12:31pmWell, so far so good for me at Iguana. No spills. No weirdness yet. I'll probably go there sometime the next few days while I'm in the city, so we'll see if my luck changes.

'Who is eating French these days?' Why wouldn't we be eating French? I've been eating and drinking French as much as possible, personally.
Anyway- Le Madeleine, as someone else suggested, is an excellent choice- great menu, atmosphere, service, and the cheapest French meal we've ever had in the city. If you want to have a fabulous meal and can get a reservation (you'd have to call now), Esca is across the street from Le Madeleine and one of the best seafood restaurants in the city. Not overpriced for what you get and compared to other good restaurants, and a more casual atmosphere.
Becco is a great, cozy little Italian spot with unbelievably reasonable prices, on 46th I believe. Lots of $20 bottles of wine.
For any place on Valentine's Day, I'd make a reservation now... and most of the better restaurants will want a credit card to reserve it. I'd make the reservation for whenever the place opens- 5:30 or 6- that way you can linger over your meal and not have to rush. Enjoy-

Posted: 12/24/03 at 1:50pmBecco is a very good idea. It's crowded and can get a little loud, but it never comes near the noise level at Carmine's. The food is good and the pasta prix fixe is always a good deal-- unlimited servings of the three pastas of the day plus antipasto or caesar salad. It's a somewhat classier alternative to the family style spots. You can still eat as much as you want, but it's more suited to a romantic dinner for two than the others are.

Korea Palace is a really nice Korean/Japanese restraunt. The prices are a bit high, but the food is amazing.
Ruby Foo's is also really good. The waitors are really nice, and the prices are reasonable. Try either of those!

Thanks Phantom. I don't write for Zagat but I had a tv show about the best spots in New York City so I know most of the hot spots in Manhattan.![]()
Oh and i like Esca it is a bit foo foo but the time I was there I sat across from Ann Reinking. I was on a date and all my attention was on her.

Posted: 12/24/03 at 2:40pmMake it an "inside the biz" meal and have your bite at Angus McIndoe, which is right next to the St. James, nice food, great service and you never know who'll sit next to you! Maybe it will be me!

Posted: 12/24/03 at 4:07pmI love Don Giovanni on W. 44th between 8th and 9th Avenue (closer to 9th). Excellent food, generous portions, casual, reasonable prices, and not touristy.

Posted: 12/24/03 at 7:14pmI've been to Union Pacific twice, although not since Rocco became a TV star, so can't vouch for how the quality's kept up. I actually went there for my birthday lunch last year- 1 year ago today. The food and service are (or were) amazing... brilliant Asian/French/fusion type food... mostly seafood. Great atmosphere too, with a waterfall in the main dining room. I wouldn't recommend it for pre-theater though- it's in the Gramercy Park/Flatiron area, quite a hike from the theater district.

Phantom-
I am not into food- I had to write restaurant scripts for a couple of years.
Theater is my passion. But I have experience writing scripts.
You could say I am passionate about most things.
Ha ha.
Merry Christmas.
(Maybe that is a fib Jon Bloostein who owns Heartland said he admires my passion for food so maybe it is true)(Just his spring rolls talk about divine!)
But theater is my true love. Theater comes before men! Now that is passion!
