But wasn't that also King Kong's closing date before their announcement? Nothing is official yet

Unless it's an announced closing date by the production the on sale date on the ticketing website just means that's how far in advance they are currently selling to. It doesn't guarantee that it will still be open by then, it doesn't guarantee that it won't remain open past that point. It's just the window they are currently trying to concentrate ticket sales into.

To add to that, Hadestown is also only currently selling tickets to January 5th. I doubt that it will close then.
The Lion King is currently on sale through March 8th. I can guarantee there is no way that it's closing then.
In Pretty Woman's case I would actually be mildly surprised if it does manage to make it to January 5th.

In how many threads have we gone through this? The "tickets on sale thru" date has little to no correlation to when a show closes.

Why not ad a "?" mark to your subject line as it makes it seem an offial date has been announced.
