Short previews of all 20 tracks from the album... very Low-quality, though.

Yeah, I'm definitely not impressed.

You can purchase "Pour Some Sugar On Me" from the album right now on iTunes. Anybody else find it odd that the movie includes Def Leppard songs, but the show couldn't secure the rights to any of their music?

There is no effing way that is Crusies voice...

Since the movie is higher profile and higher budget, they're able to get some songs that were prohibitively expensive, or just plain restricted, to the low-budget underdog that ROA was as an Off-Broadway show.

Guns 'N' Roses and Def Leppard are both fairly notorious for licensing their songs at a high fee.

I haven't heard the soundtrack but Cruise is an extremely good singer - I'd be shocked if he was dubbed for the recording.

Cruise is clearly not doing all of his singing. There is a guide vocal or something mixed in to help with the belting. I don't know if it's that apparent on the soundtrack, but it's obvious when watching the film.

^I dunno.... I think its all Cruise. In Shankman's articles, it sounded like Cruise worked his a** off to get ready for this role, and Shankman seems to indicate that he blew everyone away with his voice. It does sound like Cruise's voice when you listen to it (even though I've never heard him sing.)

At any rate... running through the songs, I think Cruise is going to be the best thing in this movie.

@a-mad - I would take that with a grain of salt. I'm sure he worked very hard, but it was like listening to Rene Zelwegger in Chicago. There is someone else helping with the big notes.
Also, he doesn't read as "Rock Star" either...not even close.

Fair enough... I know you've seen it, and I haven't - so you have an edge on how his performance appears on film. Any director is going to gush over their mega-star's involvement (esp in a musical...) Still have high hopes for his performance, and his clips on Amazon are the strongest on the soundtrack, in my opinion.

"and his clips on Amazon are the strongest on the soundtrack, in my opinion."

Well that makes me think it was designed that way as you have Mary J Blige in there and two supposedly bonafide singers (Julianne and Diego).

The best and worst, imho, is Mary J Blige. She is so comfortable singing and performing musically on camera (like Madonna in Evita) that it points out the deficiency in the other performers musical abilities. Also, Julianne Hough is a terrible singer.

Russell Brand sounds the worst to me.

Julianne sounds laughably bad.

Uh-oh... does this mean that Julianne (whom I have not heard sing, and I can't preview the tracks at work right now) is definitely out of the running for Elphaba in the Wicked film?

My concern about the film soundtrack is that it is shorter than the OBC. Did they cut some songs from the show or just the recording?

"Men do not belt. OY." - gotcha. when he sings loudly at a high pitch, there is definitely some support from a different voice.

The twitter reactions to screenings of the film the last few days have been overwhelmingly positive.

But then again, didn't most people who saw NINE have good things to say?

My guess is, it will be a hit with anyone who did not come of age in the 80s (as with most 80s nostalgia). The screening I attended, most were under 30 and enjoying the film immensely. The few over 30, like myself, were less than pleased.

They added some songs and there are two (I think) new original songs. They cut some songs that were in the stage show. Interesting that they were some of the best highlights of the show (for me). Oh Sherrie, High Enough, Feel the Noise.

There aren't any original songs featured in the film. Total jukebox.

I got that from this interview but I could have read it wrong. That was the most horrible thing to try to get thru. Sooo long and incoherent. And the ego was blinding me.
