Caught this is in early previews and it is such a fun evening! I am a huge fan of Kate Hamill's adaptations. Vanity Fair last year was a highlight for me and I am kicking myself for missing Sense and Sensibility. Mark Bedard as Caroline Bingley/Mr. Collins brought the house down and John Tufts as Mary Bennet was a real highlight (who would have thought I'd see a production of P&P and come away loving Mary). The show runs 2:40 with an intermission about hour into the show. It was a packed house and I wouldn't be surprised if it continued to sell really well.
Thanks for posting! I have my tickets for end of Nov and am looking forward to it :) I'm a sucker for anything P&P.
I thought it was cute and fun overall, with a little too much running around and screaming. The cast, especially the men, are excellent. I did think Sense and Sensibility worked better, though.
I agree. I felt like Sense & Sensibility relied less on funny voices and mugging. It still made me laugh a lot, and I would recommend it.

This was probably one of my most anticipated plays for the season and honestly, it really disappointed me. I loved S&S an thought all of the farcical moments were executed so well there and all worked well with the story. P&P is naturally such a funny story that I don't understand why they hammed up some moments the way they did, and most importantly, I didn't get why Darcy/Elizabeth were attracted to eah other, especially since Lizzy spent a good part of the play shrieking and crawling. I also truly can not believe that SPOILER SPOILER Mrs. Bennet would ever freaking pants Darcy SPOILER ENDS.
^^^ I agree. A disappointment. I didn't find it emotionally satisfying.
