I haven't seen Fiddler...what is the "sexuality" that goes on during Matchmaker?
Great reviews!

Posted: 12/30/04 at 9:07pmHodel and Chava just strip down to their skivvies and sensually wash each other with a wash rag for a good fourth of the song.

First of all, I'm obsessed with you. Thank you for taking your time out to write all this.
Secondly,
I am sad you didn't like Matchmaker! The sensuality was unnoticable to me, but even when I was made to realize it, it didn't phase me one bit, and felt it added to Levauxe's credibility.
Your Wicked trip- fing brilliant.
Oh how I want to see Pacific Overtures!!! One of my favorite scores, oh how I want to see it.
SO happy you enjoyed...i love new york (in as much of a wickedfan#1, iloverentboi, and hairsprayrox sort of a way).

I hope they extend PO.
It was sold out when I saw it.

Interesting.
As for an extention, I'm not sure when Streetcar is coming in (I thought I heard March), but I hope there's a little room to extend, if just for a few weeks.

Wow, I have to say I disagree with you on EVERYTHING (except for Pacific Overtures). I loved Brooke in Wonderful Town, and while she didn't have Donna's singing ability, her comedic acting made up for it. Jennifer Hope Wills is AMAZING and by far the best Eileen, bar none. Greg Edleman has been performing that way since day one, and in part, because that is his character, who believes that doing work is "A Waste of Money and Time"!
Fiddler was terrible! Molina couldn't sing, nor act. Graff was pretty good. I did not care for John Cariani's portrayal at all. 'Nuff said.
Little Women. Well, although the Wonderful Town criticisms sent chills down my spine, your comments on Little Women infuriated me. I think it is a very good show, Sutton is phenomonal, as well as every actor involved. The book is very good, and stays entirely true to its original source. The score is wonderful. Astonishing is a great song, and Sutton does wonders with it, and she doesn't screech at all. It's called "singing" it is what one does when performing in a musical.
Well, my rant is over for now, but I bet I'll pick it up again shortly.

"It's called "singing" it is what one does when performing in a musical."
Though you have very single right to disagree, that remark is condescending and hints that I am ignorant.

Well, in my opinion, Wonderful Town, and Little Women are brilliant works of theater, and if you're criticizing a performance on something that doesn't exist, I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings, but you are wrong.

I'm sorry if I am not a fan of belted high F's and G's.
I have already said how much I adore Sutton and that her performance was great despite the material. Her singing overall was wonderous. I just couldn't get past the crappy book and cliche score.
What was I wrong about?
I thought that reviews were based on a person's personal opinion.

I love when people tell other's that their opinions are wrong. It's so fu*kin' funny...

Priest, I'm so happy you had a good time and got to meet George. Last time I went to see the show, I waited before and got to talk to him, and you could tell that he enjoyed young people who know good theatre!
Totally thrilled for you!

I didn't say that Little Women is a bad show.
To be fair, I will wait until I see it after previews to say that.
But, as it is right now, the show didn't work for me.

Poor Priest- you kinda sorta dissed a sacred cow and look how much undeserved trouble you're getting.
Anyway, cool trip. George Hearn, Pacific Overtures and Twelve Angry Men, all within days of each other? Doesn't get much better than that.

Heck Plum, I got Twelve Angry Men, Tom Aldrdge and George Hearn all on the same day. Within hours of each other.
It certainly doesn't get better than that.

Wasn't Aldredge great? Of course, like an idiot fangirl all I could think of for the first few minutes of seeing him was "Mysterious Man! Mysterious Man!"
I'm a real twit sometimes.

After meeting Hearn and seeing PO, the highlight of my trip was me talking to Mr. Aldredge in the lobby of Maerican Airlines Theatre, talking about Into the Woods and Passion and having him break into 'No More'
Running away, let's do it...

Nice reviews Priest. Makes me look foreward to my trip back in April. I did the same thing you did when you got to the theatre district earlier this year when I was there. I am from Philly but have been in Denver for 13 years. Used to go to NY all the time for shows. This past April was the 1st time in over 13 years for me. I nearly cried when I walked into my 1st show, Caroline or Change, I was so excited.
Hearn and Aldridge? I am very envious!!
And Pacific Overtures! I would kill to see it but I am sure it will be closed by the time I get there. Saw Assasins last April. It was the 1st show I bought a ticket for as I am a big Sondheim fan.
As far as Sutton is concerned, I suspect your comments on her singing that one song are probably accurate. The show is still in previews and who knows, they may have changed something between the performance you saw and Radio saw. (Isn't that what previews are for? To tweak a show?) I have seen shows in previews and then after they opened and a lot had been changed. So the personal attack on you is not warranted.
Glad you had a good time in New York!!
