Just watched it. It was positively awful. As host Nick Cannon woodenly mentioned, there are over 500 costumes in the show, and the best they can do are a bunch of raincoats that I don't even remember in the show? As for Will Swenson running around like a lunatic mute confusifying the whole thing? What a waste of a great opportunity.

It was less NBC telling them to tone it down and more Priscilla not wanted to spend a couple of bucks on sending a couple of more costumes to LA. Understandable, but they could've found a more creative way to do it.

everythingtaboo, that's the problem. We don't know for sure who did what. If you looked at the Prince Poppycock interviews last year after he was eliminated from America's Got Talent, you would know that NBC pulled a bunch of special effects, back-up performers, and the live horse he was supposed to have a few hours before the final performances. This completely gutted his performance and made the judges bash him in the final 4. They've done similar things to sideshows, stunt performers, out gay performers, and even some guest stars. If they find something offensive, they'd rather screw up the performance than risk losing viewers.

We don't know if the dancers had their other costumes under the raincoats and were told they were not allowed to reveal them under any circumstances. It just seems off that the raincoats stayed on when they're part of a costume reveal in the show. It wouldn't be that hard to send those few extra costumes over, especially if they shipped four of the big cupcakes.

I was thinking the same thing about what was under those raincoats, taking them off revealing something spectacular, whether costumes or abs, LOL! Would not be surprised to hear that was what they intended. But either way, agreed, it was a missed opportunity for them.

"In terms of promoting the show to Midwestern tourists, are we assuming tourists means families? I would think a lot of gay couples (and singles) would also visit New York City from the Midwest and would be interested in seeing Priscilla if they were made aware of it."

Yes, I get a little tired of the broad brush that paints "Midwestern" as "homophobic." Frankly, those people who are generally don't vacation in NYC. BOM is much more in your face in terms of taking on socially conservative values, yet it is not having a problem luring the dollars.

For people who are influenced by the TV performances they see, every performance I've seen of this show makes it look like a clownish mess and there are too many good shows to choose instead. They need to show more of the narrative, because out of context, the production numbers don't work.

If someone coming into town is interested in a show using disco music, Mama Mia is the show with the buzz.

And that is too bad, because Priscilla has more of the disco played back it the day. (and IMO more variety) A lot of the songs were played at clubs, parties, weddings and even aerobic classes. Most people in their late 40's and up has heard the music, maybe even some younger because of club remixes. Mamma Mia music, well it is Abba, yes, a few of the songs were similarly popular at the time, but not as popular in clubs.

All this talk of the raincoats - clearly these are not regular cast members and are just some local dancers brought in to "fill out" the number.

That goes to my point, alterego. One of the dancers I follow on Twitter was saying to catch him in the Priscilla number - but he's not in the cast.

WELL...now I just realized AGT airs live on Wednesday, so unless the spot was pre-taped, I'm guessing the real problem was they couldn't spare the cast and costumes - perhaps they got scheduled into AGT long before Priscilla moved to the new summer schedule, that moved dark days from Wed to Thu? So they couldn't spare cast or costumes?

It was pre-taped last Monday and then shown during the show on Wednesday. They do have a show on Monday night, so I think that explains the dancers (and Lindsay Mendez), but not really the rest of it.

Were the raincoat people wearing wigcaps?

They royally screwed Poppycock. Forced him to do Nessun Dorma for the finale, he planned the tribute to America as his finale, and then f*cked him over some more by cutting all of his extras playing the wrong backing track which is why he had to take out the headphones, and to top it off buzzed him.
