Producers Tour#0

I got tickets as a gift to see the Producers tour. Just curious as to thoughts, comments on anyone who has seen the current touring cast? This will be my first time seeing the show on stage. Saw the movie, liked it but heard the stage is obviously better. (usually is..)

I didn't see the touring cast currently; I saw them back in 2004 with Lewis Stadlen and Alan Ruck.

I can say, however, that I think the Producers works better on stage than it does on film. When I saw the film I noticed that it was too much of a carbon copy of what you saw on stage, so why don't you just see it on stage where it works better? For example, in the movie in the beginning, you can tell "Opening Night" was shot on a stage rather than an actual New York street. That was one of the weaker scenes in that show, in my opinion, since it didn't seem to translate well on screen.

I don't know anything about the touring cast now, but when I saw the show, I had fun. Unlike a lot of people on BWW, I liked the music. I also liked the choreography, sets, costumes, talent - everything. I think the production you're seeing is non-Equity so I'm not sure if anything has been scaled back, especially with lighting, but let us know. When are you seeing it?

as far as being scaled back...

**possible spoiler?!**

I haven't seen the show or the movie so I don't know if this is a spoiler or not. But I helped set up and load out this tour in Owensboro. One of the show crew was talking about how they cut out the scene where Ulla paints everything white. I don't know how big a detail this is. She said they just didn't have enough truck room. I saw all the prop pieces that were painted white being loaded into the truck that was not touring, so I assume the end decision was to cut that scene.

Unfortunately, VivaBohemia...you're seeing the new non-Equity tour which is a heavily scaled-down version of the Broadway production (and the 1st National Tour).

You will be seeing a VERSION of "The Producers", not THE Broadway version -- set-wise, etc. As you just read, the sight-gag which opens Act 2 (Max's entire office painted completely white) is not in this tour. The 1st National Tour was a carbon-copy of the Broadway production and the 2nd National Tour was a slighly (barely noticeable) scaled-down version. At least you have the film-version for an idea on how the Broadway production look(s), etc.

PS: or you can see the show on Broadway to see it in it's original form. re: Producers Tour

I am not supprised by this in the slitest, if you read Jeffry Denman's book "A Year With the Producers", you will find out that this gave them trouble and they almost cut this out of town, however they decided to keep it and to hire an extra stage hand. I really dont care about the quality of the sets, can somebody tell me about the performances of this tour, I am suprised the moved to Non Equity, but so did Chicago for a while.

Thanks for all the information :)
If anyone happens to catch the tour, Im interested to know how well the roles are acted.

I didnt really care for the office scene anyways in the movie, so its not a huge deal to me that its not there lol.

Hey all,

My school the University of California, Irvine went to NYC last year to study on Broadway for spring quarter, and three of my classmates got into this non-equity national tour while we were there, including my good friend Erika as a chorus girl and Ulla understudy...I also know the dance captain/swing and one of the old ladies and they are all top-notch performers! But of course, they are all college students like myself just taking a year off for this national tour. So that's what the cast seems to be made up of, just FYI. I am so excited to see this though. You may not be getting equity performers, but you are getting the best of the best college kids who are SOOO excited to give their all every night of this tour...

Most non-Equity tours consist primarily of young performers who just recently got out of college. Some of them can be very talented, but what they are usually missing is experience, which of course is vital.

My main problem with non-Equity tours is that they try to pass them off as "Broadway tours", which they most certainly are not, both in terms of the quality of the performers and the production values.

I don't agree with what you said as passing them off as Broadway shows, and the production values, but I will not say that about the performers. I've seen a few non-Eq tours, and I've found the performers are as good, if not better than their Broadway "counterparts". As you said, the only thing they lack is experience.... but that doesn't mean those with talent are superior.

Ah but it makes for some good, quick inside jokes.
