I work for a university theatre department and for most productions, I take photos during dress or tech rehearsals. I’m not an experienced photographer, but every so often I get decent shots. I obviously love the work of Joan Marcus, Matthew Murphy, Julieta Cervantes, etc. and the clarity and quality of their work. If this is something I want to delve into more or take classes to eventually get better at it, does anyone have any tips or tricks on equipment? Our office has a Canon Rebel T1I or T3I, I believe, and a few different lenses. But I would eventually like to buy my own camera. I’m a novice, so I plan on speaking with a professional at a local camera shop/studio to get more feedback, but production photography is something so specific with low and inconsistent theatrical lighting, than portraits, landscapes, natural light, etc. I was wondering if anyone here had any info to offer.
