A USAToday article claims the white nationalist terrorist group, the Proud Boys, got their name from the Aladdin song: “Proud of Your Boy”. This whole world is a joke. The Wisconsin chapter even serenaded Kyle Rittenhouse, BLM protester murderer, with a rendition of the song. An image that is funny and surreal and sad.

Okay I just did more research. Apparently, The proud boys hate this song because it’s too pathetic and self serving and no man should have to apologize for being a boy. So they’ve adopted ironically? I guess. Did you all know this? I don’t know what the point of posting this is, I don’t have many theater friends and found this to be too ridiculous to not share it with someone.

This makes me laugh, because I feel like the song isn't overly common. I mean, you have to be somewhat of a Disney or Broadway fan to know the song, so its funny.
It's like a group called themselves "Hell, Dolly", and singing a rousting chorus of "So Long, Dearie" if the Democrats lose control, or "I Put My Hand In" when talking about the "fake ballots"

Whaaa?? That is bonkers! As mentioned above, the relative obscurity makes it kinda funny; however, I hate the thought of these jerks using a Ashman/Menken tune in vain, especially in irony. Can't we enjoy one of Ashman's few lyrics without it being contextually hijacked? Not that it ever happens (that I know of) but it's mean spirited - which is to be expected from them, I suppose.

This is so stupid, I'm having an existential crisis.
Apparently the founder saw it sung at a talent show his daughter was in and interpreted it as Aladdin apologizing to his Mom for being a boy.

Posted: 6/21/21 at 1:31pmThe way I heard the story, he interpreted it as a gay boy pleading for his parents to accept him… hence the intentionally ironic title for a group that brings back a “true” masculinity someone of a toxic mindset could still be proud of.

Alan Menken discussed this on an episode of Stars in the House.
