Did anyone else catch this video clip on Broadway.com? I havent gotten to see this new cast but now I am very worried. Pryce looks like crap in these clip. He isnt even singing half the time and when he is he is way overdoing it. I mean I know noone can match Lithgow but he just doesnt seem right. Mabye they are just bad clips...

On an upnotes the rest of the cast looks greast as always. Mylinda Hull especially looks dead on an Jolene! I also like the addition of them pushing her around a little bit. That was cute.

FTR, Pryce has gotten even stronger reviews that Lithgow did, and many feel he has reinvigorated this production.

Dont judge by the clip... TRUST ME !! I like Lithgow, but Pryce is incredible in this role, and getting better and better...!!

You're right about Hull. She is great !!!

Yeah I had a feeling it might just be the clips, but all I am saying is that from those clips he doesnt look very good.

Also, is Mylinda going to stay longer now because Grey Gardens got a extension?

I saw this with Johnathan Pryce on March 4th. He was great, but his "Dirty Rotten Number" was not up to par with the rest of his performance. He was great, apart from that. And I prefer him to John Lithgow on the recording, for the record... re: Pryce joins DRS Video

liked his LOVE SNEAKS IN a lot... Dirty Rotten Number sounded a bit scary though. Mylinda is just not Ms. Gettlefinger... she was hitting some of the notes wierd too... like bottoms of pitches maybe?

WHY DID THEY NOT SHOW RACHEL YORK SINGING!?! She is the one I wanted to see a clip of most!

rachel kinda got the short end of that video... would it have been so hard to cut some of the talking (gotta love greg jbara but he needs not talk that many times) and stick in her "here i am"? Jonathan's dirty rotten number was interesting, i liked the take on it, althouhg thus far from clips i like tom galantich's best. And in fairness to Jonathan, Norbert didn't sound his best on that clip either

His Love Sneaks In is very well done. I liked the clip. I also liked his Dirty Rotten Number... it's very sly and con-manish.

Am I cut out to spend my time this way?

The sound on this clip was poor for all of the stage sequences. It's probably an acoustics thing. The microphone may have been attached to the camera, which was probably situated at the back of the theater, under the mezzanine overhang. So there was probably some bounce that distorted the voices.

Trust me, Pryce does a great job in the show. He's mesmerizing. And I agree, it's too bad this video didn't show Rachel in performance. She dazzles.

I wonder if BWW will be redoing its DRS video preview with the new cast? That would be great.

Pryce's performance was phenominal! I didn't see Norbert that night (I saw him with the rest of the OBC though), but Pryce was as good as Lithgow, if nto better. Pryce has a more plesant singing voice and he was great to watch. The video didn't do him justice. I really didn't enjoy Mylinda Hull. I really didn't enjoy how she sang the role and some of the comedy seemed forced.

Whatever happened to class?

i haven't seen the video yet but I loved Pryce. He toned down the role a bit but that is what made it funnier. especially near the end of Ruffhausen Mit Shuffhausen. So funny. and his singing is better than Lithgow's but I don't feel that this shows really shows off his ability. and his Love Sneaks In is great!

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

I know it is strange, but Pryce is actually acting the songs, as opposed to trying to sing it with pizazz and elegance as Lithgow did...

Good point, Thesbijean. That's exactly what makes Pryce so good. He draws you into his character. He doesn't force anything. It just flows naturally. And he interacts with his co-stars from a point of truthfulness. You can feel the relationships between all of these people. There is real energy going back and forth between the cast members. They are working as a fine tuned ensemble, even the leads. Everything clicks.

Cheerfully admit Pryce's version of Love Sneaks In is superior. I think, if I hadn't seen Lithgow, I'd never notice the differences or miss them. In things Like Ruffhousen Mit Shuffhousen he seemed too menacing to be fun.

Mylinda Hull was the PERFECT replacent for Jolene, I hope she does take the option to extend her contract.

I saw Pryce on his first day back from filming Pirates of the Carribean and I thought he was AMAZING!!! Just to see a 'classically trained actor' (whatever THAT means!) be able to work and play with his role was so much fun to watch. He's practically a legend in his career and to just see him onstage was really cool. He has such a presence that is hard to describe. He also moves very well. Last week I did a project on Lea Salonga for one of my voice classes and I showed the class a clip of the Making of Miss Saigon, and my rather stuffy prof said that he has "excellent movement for a non-dancer." Whatever. I just think he's an excellent performer. A friend saw him in London in "My Fair Lady" and really liked him as well. He just makes everything look so easy and polished. At least I think so! Hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion! Also, I never heard the soundtrack or was that familiar with the story and I really enjoyed the show. Have fun!

I must have caught Jonathan on a VERY off night--I could not stand him in the role. His voice did not sound good to me (it sounded very weak compared to John Lithgow's). He spoke sang through many parts of some songs. I like my songs to be sung. I just though Lithgow had much more energy and youth--he looked right for the role too. I don't know. Lithgow will always be in my heart..
