Starting midnight the day of the show, you can enter your info online and hope to be randomly selected to get tickets.
Unfortunately, they're not giving them out on Lafayette St. anymore. Only at the Delacorte.

Posted: 4/28/08 at 4:51pmDamn. I much preferred waiting on Lafayette Street. This online thing does not sound like a good idea.

Could it be that they are losing customers because people are beginning to resent sitting in line for hours on end to wind up at the end of the day sitting with a numb ass for another half-baked, unevenly cast, badly conceived show at the Delacorte put together by an A-list director who is between bigger projects?
Cynical yes, but true?

Posted: 4/28/08 at 5:09pmThe whole set up never made sense to me and I totally agree with Borstalboy. Who wants to sit for hours in the morning to get a ticket for an evening show? It is pretty disrespectful of people's time, not to mention people with jobs can be SOL. I like the online idea and hope it works.

Posted: 4/28/08 at 5:15pmHey, I don't mind waiting, but quality at the Delacorte has been seriously lacking in the last couple of years. I have talked to several people who just don't go anymore because the shows are not up to snuff. I'm not ready to bail on them yet, but still...

This sucks. Because Lafayette was always an easier location to get tickets because no one waited around there like they did in Central Park.
I am willing to bet that they are going to see that this isn't going to work out and that come next year they are going to go back to the old system.

Posted: 4/28/08 at 7:38pmI like this idea. Seriously people should not be complaining about the system for free tickets. If you really want to see the show just go to the Delacorte. It's true that those of us with 9-5 jobs are SOL, but there are weekend performances, so no biggie.

Does anyone think the Public will allow someone to win ONLY ONCE through the website?
That seems the only fair way to do this.

Posted: 4/28/08 at 7:50pmWell, as someone who will be working 9-5 as well as a 6 show week on the Broadway schedule, I'm not pleased since there'll only be one or two nights it's possible for me to go, and can't rely on the lottery system to look kindly upon me.

Posted: 4/29/08 at 1:15amI think the idea is to make free Shakespeare (or Hair) accessible to all people, the way it was intended when the Public originally started. Right now the only people who can afford to go are people without jobs who can wait in line forever and don't have kids to take care of. Or people who have enough money to donate. That's not who they want getting to see the show, so I think the lottery is a great idea.
