I was just watching her host SNL, and she was promoting her new Jazz/Soul album, and she has such a great voice and I love her as an actress, I mean I have never seen her do a dramatic role or anything, but I think she has the talent!
But anyway, I was thinking she would be great on Broadway with her strong voice and stage presence! We know she can do musicals after seeing her in 'Chicago' and being nominated for an Oscar and also performing with CZJ (I LOVE THAT WOMAN!!!) at the ceremony!
What do you guys think?
P.S. please do not say that one solo Rent, I think she deserves better than that :)

that one solo Rent...*giggles like a little school girl* haha-jk
I think she'd be awesome on Broadway! She could be the next G(a)linda. HA! Imagine that..
I think you may be on to something, Broadwaychild.
Queen already has stage experience as a music artist, and she has acting ability, so perhaps the stage might just be a possibility. I wasn't crazy about the pieces she performed on SNL this evening, but I know she has a great voice. This was first evident to me on the "Living Out Loud" soundtrack (I believe that was the movie soundtrack she first sang on. Correct me if I am wrong.)

PSH! Are you kidding?!? That opening scat performance in the opening was INCREDIBLE! haha
EEP! You are correct!
I think it went something like this...

Geez..Queen Latifah is so great. My dad (who doesn't like very many of the hosts on SNL) thought she was incredible..which is saying alot. I loved her in the interview with Martha Stewart and Patty Labelle (sp?)...what else...like racist Excedrin..haha.. I didn't watch the whole thing-because SNL usually goes downhill after the first musical performace. But she was an incredible host(ess).
I've said for years now I want to see her play Mama Rose. I think she would be AMAZING.
She needs to play Mama Morton on Broadway. But the Weisslers are too f*cking cheap to get her!
She should be tapped for The Wiz at some point. I don't know if she has the voice for Motormouth in Hairspray though. maybe she does.
Mama Morton on stage should be a given for Queen, but Matt, Mama Rose is really a good idea! What a unique take!
Awhile ago I read that there is a possibility of her doing "Mame." She might be able to pull it off.
For some reason I've just always thought she would be fantastic in that role. There was a huge fight about race started here a few months ago when I said that.
I agree. I think she is one of the better choices for "Mame." I don't think race matters. If Pearl Bailey played Dolly Levi, then why can't Queen Latifah play Mame?
I agree... the Queen ruled last night on SNL. I have always been a huge fan of hers. I'd love to see her use her talent on stage.

I too think that she would be wonderful on Broadway. I was surprised at how good she was in Chicago. I only knew her as a rapper and she proved that she could sing, act and had AMAZING stage presence.
By the time GYPSY comes around again, she'll be old enough. She's a bit young yet. I would love to see her on Broadway. The Weisslers aren't too cheap to get her - they pay their stars VERY VERY well.

She is AMAZING! I love her!
broadwaychild, If you want to see the Queen in a dramatic role watch Set It off (w/Jada Pinkett Smith, Vivica A. Fox, and Blair Underwood) She played the tough as nails lesbian killer way before Charlize. She was so convincing rumors circulated that she was a lesbian.
I thought that QL was the only good thing about SNL last night. The skits were horrible and the current cast is boring. I've cringed the last few times they've had a black host/hostess because the skits that are supposed to have some "ethnic flava" are not funny at all. You could see it last night when the audience barely laughed at anything.
QL was supposedly in some new rap-musical made for TV version of The Wiz, which I've never seen. I saw her listed as Glinda and I've seen her listed as the Wicked Witch on imdb, but I checked just now and the listing has been taken off. It was supposed to have come out in 2002. If anybody knows what happened to the project please share...
I also heard that QL was going to be starring in a modern day remake of Mary Poppins. What do ya'll think about that?

truth, I think that no actor of any race can replace Julie Andrews. I would cry if anyone ever remade Mary Poppins. I do love Queen Latifah though. Anyone read Ebert's review of Taxi, though? Yowch. He says about one sentence concerning Jimmy Fallon and spends the last several paragraphs BEGGING Queen Latifah to make better choices because he thinks she's squandering her talent!!!! Ever seen a critic say that before?
I hope if they do it that the remake is very loosely based on the original.
Mama Morton - Chicago
Motermouth Maybelle - Hairspray
I like Queen Latifah. I enjoyed her in Chicago...but I didn't think she was all that on SNL last night nor in anything else I've seen since Chicago, point being she needs to show off her real talents instead of wasting it on Jimmy Fallon and scary movies

Hm, she is starring, along with Ashanti and, yes, the Muppets in The Muppet Wizard of Oz. She plays Auntie Em. Her career choices have gone downhill lol
