The lyric changes to "Last Midnight" are criminal.

I disagree. I mean, really they both get the message across, I just feel the revised lyrics are more clear. I'd hardly call them criminal.
I've always considered "You're so nice, you're not good, you're not bad..." to be a centerpiece lyric for the show.
I'm with Bobby those Lyrics are powerful and are sung with such force and malice.

An ideal "Last Midnight" for me would have no baby (which means keeping those lyrics) but the ending lyric changes that help clarify the story.
Also, Sondheim at one point wanted the witch to EAT the baby at the end of the song. (No kidding-this is actually from Vanessa Williams herself). Lapine nixed that pretty quickly.

Our production did the aging thing at the end of "Last Midnight" but instead of pulling the wig off completely, I pulled chunks out...it was a little more...intense (in my opinion, from what I've seen I find the whole wig a bit laughable)
