Question about Bernadette Peters interview

Recently, I saw the Bernadette Peters interview she did December 11th on 'Live with Kelly and Ryan'. She talked about her upcoming role replacing Midler in 'Dolly', and about the rehearsals (Interesting - she said the first half of rehearsals was only on the first act of 'Dolly'. She was about to begin the second half of rehearsals the following week, which was only on the second act of 'Dolly'.)

She then said this was Midler's "first time back on Broadway since she did 'Fiddler on the Roof", and that was a long time ago". Kelly Ripa agreed with her.

Curious as to how they could forget she returned to B'way in the one-woman show "I'll Eat You Last" on Broadway back in 2013, for which she won rave reviews? And no one on the show corrected Peters - no fact checkers there as on other shows?

The level of journalism you expect out of Kelly and Ryan seems like it can only lead to continual disappointment.

With all due respect to Kelly Ripa (and Ryan Seacrest), they are simply talk show hosts and correcting Bernadette Peters, a guest, is unprofessional. They are not journalists covering news as their show is entertainment and not a news show.

I completely agree with everyone here regarding Bernadette's misinformation. Even Bette has corrected interviewers when they presented this 'back on Broadway in 50 years' bit. She corrected them by adding "in a musical". Bette added its the first time she's doing a musical book show since FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, which she did from 1966 to 1968.

Now, in between FIDDLER and her Broadway return in 2013's one-woman play I'LL EAT YOU LAST, Bette HAS performed on Broadway several times with musical revues/shows which had one to two month runs - they weren't one-night concerts. Of these the most notable one was 1975's CLAMS ON THE HALF SHELL REVUE which played at the Minskoff Theatre for 2 months. She also won a 1974 Special Tony Awards for her previous musical revues/shows prior to this 1975 show. The big hype for her 2017 Tony Award for HELLO, DOLLY! was because it was her FIRST "acting" Tony Award - it was not her first.

Sadly, the world population has no idea of these details therefore they go by what they hear so by saying this, just ignore Bette's entire Broadway history and just believe HELLO, DOLLY! was Bette's Broadway debut as many most likely believe. After all, after her decades long film career you'd expect her to finally tackle Broadway, right? Sadly, this is what the mainstream masses believe.

I suspect that many performers do not hold or care to hold the encyclopedia of information many Broadway fans have. I bet if I quizzed Bernadette on her career, recordings, dates of productions etc. there are details I’d know she has forgotten or doesn’t know.

I'm an Art Director in the fashion industry and work with countless teams and even I don't remember details of who I worked with 2 weeks ago. Meryl Streep last week was quizzed by Jimmy Kimmel on the films she was Oscar nominated for and she literally blanked out. No one remembers EVERY detail of what they have done and many times, who they have worked with.

I still remember Ann-Margret being interviewed by Larry King and talking extensively of her critically acclaimed 1984 TV film adaptation of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and completely forgetting the actor's name who played Stanley (it was Treat Williams). And this interview was less than 10 years after she did the film.

No one was disparaged, no egos were trounced - it just isn't even important enough of a "thing" to be considered a first world problem.

Thank you for this. My 4-shot espresso latte each morning puts my brain on overload hence my long postings. Hahahaha. I sometimes go back and re-read them and laugh to myself how long they are. At least I educate a few with the info I mention so not all is just air. Hahahaha.
