Question about Drew Lachey in RENT
#0Question about Drew Lachey in RENT
Posted: 8/3/05 at 11:53amHey guys, I know this has probably been discussed, but it was awhile ago and I couldn't find it by searching. How was Drew in RENT? And did they have to transpose the music or something for him? Because I know he has a lower voice. Just curious, I always wondered how he pulled that part off with his voice

Posted: 8/3/05 at 11:56amI saw Drew back in September. I think I'm in the minority here when I say that he was good. Not mind-blowingly awesome, but still very good. And no, they didn't transpose the music.
greatdct

Posted: 8/3/05 at 11:59amI really, really enjoyed him! I went to the theatre expecting to dislike his performance, but he surprised me. He put a lot into it and it was obvious he was having a really great time. He is definitely not the best I've seen, but he wasn't terrible.

Posted: 8/3/05 at 12:37pmI saw him twice. I feel the same way. He wasn't the best Mark in the world, but he definitely was working hard and putting a lot into it. He was a very sweet Mark. He obviously has a very good singing voice, which certainly didn't hurt. My only problem with him was his lack of diction throughout.

Posted: 8/3/05 at 12:43pmWow, I was expecting to open this thread to a whole lot of Drew bashing. I saw Drew in February. And while he wasn't the best Mark in the world, I don't think he was terrible by any means. He surprised me.

I really hated him.
He could definately sing the role- I mean, he could hit the notes very well (or at least, it seemed so to me... I can't tell when someone sings in the wrong key, so don't take my word for it).
But he had a slight lisp- I don't know if he really has one, or if he thought it was something Mark would have. I really couldn't understand him well.
He also didn't use his camera well (you never even noticed he had it until Happy New Year when he was messing around w/it, and then you forgot about it again). This really bothered and upset my mom, who is obsessed w/the way Andy Meeks uses his camera. :-P
And he was very stiff. ESPECIALLY in La Vie Boheme. He barely did any choreography. And, in La Vie Boheme B, he just kind of stood on the front of the stage and said his lines.
And, in my opinion, he played Mark as a real loser. I was hoping Roger WOULD hit him in Goodbye Love.
But that's just me. It is true that he could have been MUCH worse, but I also found that he left a LOT to be desired.

Posted: 8/3/05 at 3:01pmI enjoyed his performance as Mark. He surprised me. He wasn't the best I've seen, but the only other Mark I have to compare him to is Matt Caplan.
