Hey, at least those of us who didn't see OBC, we get the chance to in the film!
Well...an older and a slightly adjusted cast, nonetheless, but still mostly OBC.

Drew isn't the first buff Mark. Anyone who has the calendar that BCEFA made a few years ago knows that Trey Ellett was nice to look at in that pic of shirtless Rent men.
I've seen about a dozen different Marks and Chad Richardson is at the top of the list. Jeremy was a good Mark, too. Joey Fatone is at the bottom, by far.

Drew actually looks miniscule in comparison to the rest of the cast. Yeah, he's a little muscular, but the guy is mad short. "Goodbye Love" looks even more unfair than it already is, and Jeremy's not that big himself!
The most obviously buff Mark I've ever seen was Joshua Kobak, who really isn't buff, but his arms looked HUGE in that sweater.

Posted: 12/1/04 at 12:49pmShe doesn't come back to life. She loses consciousness and then wakes up. If Mimi died, the entire theme of the show would be lost. Mimi is HIV+, but they never said she has AIDS.....HUGE difference. And everybody dies eventually, not just from AIDS.

Drew portrays Mark that is so unsatisfying to me...all the cute "Mark" things, like his entrance to the Life Support Group...is not done well, in my opinion. One of the very first notes of the show, when I saw him, Drew's voice cracked. Ouch. He's out of tune sometimes, especially when he's singing with Jeremy Kushnier.
Another thing that's funny yet annoying about Drew is that he always cracks up Merle (Joanne) when they do Tango Maureen. Joanne's supposed to be mad, but she always seems like she's on the verge of laughing.
All the other Marks I've seen have been better. Don't remember their names...but it's so satisfying to see a funny Mark.

That's just how Merle plays Joanne. She always laughs at that point in the song. Though sometimes more than others.
Drew very obviously learned from watching Matt Caplan. There are very many things he does that Matt also does, that work for Matt and don't work for Drew. However, he adds a few of his own fun moments as well, and he is starting to get more natural in the role.
I still can't figure out who was better, Drew or Joey.

I have seen Rent twice on Broadway, once with Matt Caplan and once with Drew Lachey. I have to say that in my opinion Matt was fantastic while Drew was mediocre at best. Being an Adam Pascal fan, I never really cared about Mark before seeing the show. Matt made me love him !
Take care

Well, cop-out or no, this is why it's an adaptation of La Boheme. Mimi dies in the opera. Mimi *almost* dies in RENT...and this ending is a bit more palatable for commercial theatre.
Honestly, I don't think it necessarily matters whether she's just HIV or has AIDS....I always got it as it'd developed into full blown AIDS considering that part of Roger's leaving is to not watch her die....and she's in crappy health for most of the show, ESP in the 2nd act. But either way...."she's been living on the streets" so that could be it too.
I didn't mind Drew--he was ok. He's VERY short. He could be an actual munchkin Boq.
I thought Jeremy was GREAT.

My opinion on Drew is this:
If you're a Matt Caplan fan, you're not going to like Drew if you go in wanting him to be better than Matt Caplan. Because in your eyes, no one will be better than him anyway, so what's the point.
If you go in wanting to see Drew Lachey from 98 degrees be amazing.. you're going to be disappointed.
But, if you go in looking to see 'sensitive, funny' Mark - you won't be let down. I like his Mark. It's different, but satisfying. And for some reason, he makes it work. He kind of lets everything build up until What You Own, where he finally 'lets loose'. It's not bad.
I'm going to see him again on Saturday. Let's see if the 'lisp' has gotten any better

I know they're "bad," but oh, what I'd give to see/hear a bootleg of this!

Posted: 12/3/04 at 11:46pmHey, guys! I'm seeing Rent in about a week or so, and I'm really terrified. LOL. I saw the Rent touring cast (the only versoin of Rent I've ever actually SEEN VISUALLY; I do own the OBC) and they were AMAZING. But now I'm seeing Drew Lachey, and basically, I'm just praying that it doesn't completely suck. If I liked the tour, I should be able to at least enjoy the Broadway performance, right? RIGHT? Any reassurance (or even harsh truths) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :P

Munk, im quite suprised that you like Drew. Actually, im suprised you like ANYONE... but thats different
. Ive seen rent like 10 times in 5 years or something. Had one of those phases we all go through. Ive seen Drew twice. Hes not terrible. Terrible Was Joey Fat One. Hes not really that Good. Good was Matt Caplan. He is Okay. Ive seen better and ive seen worse. Drew definately got better the second time, and was much better BOTH times then i expected. Still not MARK. Physically, i wasnt bothered. He looked okay... i dunno. Just didnt do it.

**rolls eyes** lets not get into details. Its a musical not an autobiography. Considering its time frame of what early 90s? That usually was not a distinction made back then.
Something tells me she doesnt have access to magic johnson drugs.
I say its pretty safe to assume she be dieing .... not to mention that what she did to her body with drugs, living on the streets is gonnna naturally lower her immune system and subject her to hib coming out of its lysogenic phase.
