Hey, does anybody know if he is actually going to be at the ceremony/make a speech? Or is it going to be like Hal Prince with a televised "Thank You", or what? Just because I'm going this year (aaaah!) and would love to say that even once I saw him with my own eyes..he he.
Thanks!
I imagine he'd be there
Hal Prince was working on a show in Vegas. I don't believe Sondheim is working on a show, so I would expect him to be there.
oh, I hope so. Thanks!
I'll pee myself if he shows the year I actually end up going. Fingers crossed!
I wish I could be there.
What about that Vegas production of PASSION in the works?
I'm pretty sure the Vegas production is Bounce.
No, CurtainPullDowner, you mean the Vegas production of Assassins with the JFK motorcade scene right in the middle of the audience. Oliver Stone's directing it.
Anyway, bad joke aside...
I think he would go. He's gone to every other Tony ceremony he's won for. This is the most exciting one yet. Why wouldn't he?
I wonder who will present it to him. Hal Prince?
LOL, jv92.
YAY! Thank God I'm actually going this year!!

I think he'll be there;it should be a great moment for him.
Here would be a fun hook: ALL teh presenters have some kind of Sondheim connection: They have either appeared in a Sondheim musical on stage or film, or worked with him on creating the shows:
Julie Andrews
John Barrowman
Carol Burnet
Len Cariou
Michael Cerveris
Barbara Cook
Tyne Daly
Johnny Depp
Raul Esparza
Victor Garber
Joanna Gleason
Kelsey Grammer
Neil Patrick Harris
George Hearn
Richard Kind
Nathan Lane
Angela Lansbury
Carol Lawrence
Patti LuPone
Marin Mazzie
Howard McGillin
Brian Stokes Mitchell
Donan Murphey
Mandy Patinkin
Bernadette Peters
Chita Rivera
Elaine Stritch
Jim Walton, Ann Morrison, Lonny Price
Vanessa Williams
Chip Zien
Each star (or set of stars) coud do a few bars of one of their numbers: I.e.: The trio from the OC of MERRILY coud do a bit of Old Friends; Elaine could sing a bit of "Little Things You DO Together"; and so on.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

frontrow....now, THAT was a cool post :)
Thanks!
I'd love a Broadway tribute but knowing the Tony's it will likely be Mariah Scarey singing Send in the Clowns and Fantasia singing Somewhere.
frontrowcentre - as cool as that would be to see it would be overkill. He's not a demigod even if some of us treat him as such.
And Bobby.....I threw up in my mouth a little bit at those suggestions.

court..."demigod" aside, it would be a fitting, entertaining and "recap" education for those who are not familiar with all his stuff.
My vote for frontrow!
How about Hilton, Spears, and Lohan singing "You Could Drive a Person Crazy"?
If only the "voting" were left up to us.

court...uh...yes, true
Perhaps if the Tony Awards show was moved to PBS we might get to see things like what frontrowcentre suggested in future broadcasts.
Well, one can dream.

Now, THAT's an exciting idea!
Perhaps if we all got together on this one, it might become a reality (sigh, I think I'm also dreaming...).
I hope they get a lot of Sondheim alumni to sing at the show:
Donna Murphy singing "Story of Lucy and Jessie," Jane Krakowski and Boyd Gaines singing "Barcelona," Victor Garber singing something from the three hundred Sondheim shows he's done, Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin singing "Move On," and finally Angela Lansbury singing "The Worst Pies in London." Da-da!
I think the Tonys should be an hour longer this year, with one full hour dedicated to Sondheim alumni performing his numbers.
But seriously, I remember they did a nice tribute to him one year where they had the brilliant Anita Morris singing "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" (and moving her body like nobody I've seen before), Larry Kert singing "Being Alive" (I think), Pam Myers singing "Another Hundred People," and Nancy Dussault singing "A Parade in Town." They should do something similar this year.
