Just curious......
In the song "The Cover is Not the Book" from "Mary Poppins Returns" is the line "the king might be a crook" an intentional (and not very subtle) dig against our current "Dear Leader?" Just asking....
If anyone knows this answer definitively, please let us know. Thank you!

I think King George V was reigning during the time period of this movie so the comment probably alluded to him.
Also, Disney has been working on this for a couple years now so it's very possible these songs were written before the 2016 election.

You could check whether Mr. Shaiman still has a Facebook account.
I once had a question about a lyric in a Judy Garland song and asked Seth Rudetsky via his FB account. Rudetsky referred me to Shaiman at the latter's page and he graciously solved the mystery for me. Very nice guy (who may not want me telling people he is accessible via FB).
