Quick question on Sunday show/getting to JFK

#1Quick question on Sunday show/getting to JFK
Posted: 11/6/22 at 3:31am

I know this type of question has been asked before, so my apologies in advance. My daughter is in NYC today and is hoping to catch a show before her 8 pm flight out of JFK. A 3 pm show seems too risky, but what about a 2 1/2 hour musical that starts at 2? That seems safe, just wondered if the marathon will cause any issues.

She’s not hell-bent on seeing a show but thought it would be fun to catch a touring musical near her hometown, fly to New York City, see a concert and then another musical in one weekend.

She also is concerned about ticket prices given recent complaints.

After her show, she can get to Penn Station at 34th Street (not far from the theatre district) and take an LIRR train to Jamaica Station (just look for any train on the board that has an airplane symbol next to it).  It’s a little more expensive than taking the subway, but trains run often and in 20 minutes she will be at the Air Train Station to JFK.  From there it’s about a ten minute train ride to the terminals.  Altogether, she can be walking through security within an hour of arriving at JFK.  That should give plenty of time.

I'll be saving this info, didn't know about the LIRR train option.  Thanks!

Plenty of marathon roadblocks for my daughter today. She has to go back to the Upper East Side after the show, so is planning to take Lyft or Uber. I’m not sure if she will be pushing it if she sees one of the 2 pm shows.

Yeah, as a nervous flier myself, I would say she should know exactly what roadblocks there will be at 430. But at the same time, getting out of a show at 430 leaves her 3.5 hours until her flight actually takes off and  2-2.5 hours to get to JFK. With that calculus, I would probably see a show.

She’s seeing Kinky Boots (has never seen).

She should have time, even with the delay of getting her bag. But I’m not sure if Lyft or the subway is the best option. The railroad may be the best option, but it would be too far out of the way, given her location.

Subway.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

She should leave the city no later than 5 - Keep at least 1 hour traveling to JFK by Lyft 1 1/2 hour by subway as she will need to be at the airport at least 1 1/2-2 hours prior!

My daughter made it to the airport on time (took an Uber), got home safely. She enjoyed Kinky Boots quite a bit, probably won't go on a marathon weekend again, kept getting asked directions or asked out by others (single woman alone who seems like she knows where she's going). Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
