I actually had tickets to see it on January 16th, but then when they announced it was closing the only day I was free was the final show. So I'll be at the final performance.
Well enjoy. It will be a very emotional experience for both audience members and cast. It won't be like seeing a regular performance (with the prolonged ovations throughout) but a memorable time just the same.
Be sure and tell us all about it when you get back.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
I'll be there as well. I just hope some of the more ardent fans don't ruin the performance with their antics. Hopefully this will be a mostly older crowd and that won't happen.
This seems like it would be a respectful crowd. I'm going to try to go on Saturday, and then Sunday if that doesn't work out. I really don't want to go on Sunday, though. I don't want to see that.
adamgreer, I've attended many closings, but the only one that comes to mind that had an "over-enthusiastic" audience was at Hairspray's closing. I was at the original production of Ragtime's closing in January 2000 and the enthusiasm was reserved to extended applause after each number. I'm not worried about audience "antics" as Ragtime as a show doesn't lend itself to that.
The last "last performance" I was at was the LuPone Gypsy's last January and there certainly were antics, but one expected antics from the LuPone-ites. Personally, I found them mostly amusing. But I'm expecting nothing but extended applause, shouts of a joy and hearty curtain call applause at the end. I'm looking forward to seeing this marvelous production one last time, though it will indeed be sad to see it go.

I had tickets for the 16th then switched them to the 3rd now how can I buy seats for the 10th. I was kind of getting excited for the final show
If you can't exchange, just go on the 3rd and enjoy the show for the show's sake.

The last performance of "Rent" was fantastic. The final cast was in some ways better than the original cast. It is great to see a show you love, filled with an audience that loves it as well.
On Saturday (both performances) and Sunday the role of Mother will be played by Mamie Parris...she is amazing!!! I can't wait to see it.
I can't see the final performance getting out of hand. The show on sunday the third was without a doubt full of the loyal fans who couldn't exchange their tickets, and I didn't see or hear anyone crossing the line. There was enthusiastic applause after the songs and when the curtain went up. There was no screaming in the middle of the show or during a dramatic moment. I've never been to a Ragtime performance where the audience was disrespectful or over the top.
