Hi,
I am curious to know if anyone out there has ever purchased a CD from a seller named Stagesoundaustralia on ioffer.com?
I've never used ioffer, for starters, and am naturally skeptical about quality. That said, this seller appears to have transfered rare cast albums to CD. (Having purchased a CD of A JOYFUL NOISE through Blue Pear, I am aware that I could be getting a bootleg recording of an actual performance).
Seeing OLCs of HOW TO SUCCEED, CARNIVAL!and THE MOST HAPPY FELLA though have definitely peaked my interest. I know that CARNIVAL! and HAPPY FELLA were recorded on vinyl initially.
Does anyone out there have any experience with this seller or recordings of any of the above mentioned shows?
I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts...

Hi ~
Not sure if this will help you make up your mind or not. I have no experience with this particular seller but, I've (head hung in shame) purchased bootlegs of many different items on ioffer. I got some good transfers to DVD of the 1960's TV presentations of Brigadoon and Carousel (both starring Robert Goulet) and other stuff not theater related. The quality has always been good to excellent. The ioffer site is very similar to eBay, in that it has a customer rating system. You can get a pretty good feel for the quality of the product.
Hope this helps.
Tim

This seller has been kicked off E-baya few times. What he does is "sell" you the LP and as a bonus includes a "free CD copy." THe CD is taken from the LP - scratches and all. Of course if it is a score you love and it is not on CD this is one way to get it. Or you can just transfer your own copy to CD.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Thanks guys. I appreciate your thoughts.
I think I'll bite the bullet and purchase 1 CD and see what happens. I've always wanted to hear Libi Staiger in HAPPY FELLA and this seems like my way in.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has additional input...I'm considering buying a couple of rare recordings there. I can deal with a slightly less-than-average sound, considering they're old and copied from LPs.

I've bought from this guy... he's totally legit and great! They CD's are obviously homemade and come in a basic case with no linear notes, but it's totally worth, considering most of them are out of print. I highly recommend him!!

I've bought 23 CDs so far off this guy in Australia and he is fantastic.
He doesn't 'sell' you the LP and then send you the CD!!!!. There used to be a guy who did that but he is no longer around. What you get of this guy is avery good copy that he has done together with a song list and a color copy of the sleeve cover.
My second order didn't arrive and within days he had sent out another package- $175 worth of CDs. The orders are always very prompt and as you can see he has a great selection of very rare shows that will never see the light of day on CD.
I will be checking his new additions as soon as I press send on this post!

Thank you! That's just what I wanted to hear.

Have you ever tried negotiating for a lower price? I know they're rare recordings, but 20-some dollars seems a tiny bit steep for a homemade CD.

Most of the purchases I've made I made come to around $175-$200. I then post an offer of approx $140-150 which he accepts without any question.
Since you posted this thread I've had a look at what he has new and he has some that I certainly want- 'Smile', 'Mutiny' Andrew Lloyd Webbers 'Jeeves'.

If the listing is AU$20.00 this is Australian dollars this is around US $13 as of 10/31 so that's not too bad.
