REMINDER: "Evil Dead the Musical" Closes on Saturday...

Just an innocent question, please....
Anyone else think the show may have done better if it had a different title?
"Evil Dead the Musical" kind of begs to NOT be taken seriously by those who know nothing about it in advance.
Perhaps something more along the lines of "A Bucket of Blood" would have been a better lure for theater-goers.
I didn't have time to see it while in town last week, but does anyone who HAS seen it agree and have any better "story-related" alternate show titles in mind???
Just curious....

Well, it's so titled because it is after all, based on all three Evil Dead movies and it's a musical. I can't think of any title more appropriate.
The reason why it hasn't done better is that it's in a large house with a high overhead. The numbers of tickets which have sold each night would fill a smaller off broadway house.

I realize its named after the "Evil Dead" movies. I have seen them all, own them on DVD, and have met Bruce Campbell several times at book signings. The point is, I was hoping it lasted longer just like you were.
My question, however, aside from theater-space economics you hinted at, was regarding the title.... Is the show good enough to surmise (hypothetically, of course!) that a different title would have appealed to a larger theater-going public and sold more tickets?
Just a fun question. I think it would have worked.

Posted: 2/17/07 at 1:32pmI think that another title might have duplicitously brought people into the theatre expecting something else. I think that customers know exactly what they're seeing when they get their tickets to "Evil Dead". Not to mention that it would have been untrue to the franchise to call it something else.

Boo-hoo it's gone! Well, I left after my favorite song because I was so tired but the crowd at the last show was out of their minds with Evil Dead love. It's so bittersweet when you love a show so much and during the final show you feel so happy that everyone's so into it but so sad at the same time.
I'll just count the days for the cd~

I was at the 7 PM performance and it was sensational. The theater was packed and the performances seemed to be better than either of the previous times I saw the show. An understudy was in for Brandon Wardell (who had family obligations). An excellent night in the theater.
I also spotted Jane2--she's so much older than I imagined!

Anyone who thinks they saw me at the theater tonight is sadly mistaken. I was not working there today hence was not in New World Stages uniform. No one would know me from any other patron.
So your usual mean spirited remark fell flat, plop. What a lemon.

Saw the last show - it was my first time seeing the show.
I am so glad I came home to see it! It was fantastic - though a little sad I can't see it again.
We had two understudies. Well, I suppose just the one, plus Shelly.
The house was packed and very enthusiastic. The show started about 10 minutes late, and intermission was over 20 minutes! Apparently someone threw up down in the orchestra.
Counting the days until the CD is released...and I can play CABIN IN THE WOODS on repeat.
Oh, it looked like Ward was going to make a speech (music stopped) and the cast was egging him on. Guess he decided not to...

He was going to make the speech, but the band cut him off. C'est la vie.
Glad you all showed up to give your support. The cast and crew are very appreciative.

I wanted to give a shout out to Ryan Williams, who was on for Scott (does anyone know who went on for Fake Shemp)?
Based on the videos of the show on its fansite, I think I prefer Wiliams...but that really isn't fair to judge.
I also think the Annie did a great job (I can't remember her name is I don't have the Playbill with me, and she isn't listed on the site...
I loved when Shelly jumped.
And I realized I only saw the second movie, so it was cool to see Act II.
Poor bit-part demon.

For the final two performances Fake shemp was cut from the show because nobody was able to fill in. The female understudy hurt her ankle a couple weeks ago. The male understudy was on as scott.... so they cut the fake shemp scene.
The rocording shall be the joy of my life!

Oh...
What is the Fake Shemp scene all about then?
I assumed Fake Shemp was referring to the father. But the Spirit works better...who, at the time, I thought was the Candarian Demon that does the Necronomicon.

Fake shemp scene:
After Linda's head gets chopped off, her body comes after ash with the chainsaw. Its usually Ryan Williams. It happens before Ash sings the " I'm not a killer, I'm an S-Mart Employee."
It was cut and I was sad but it worked without it.
im looking at a playbill and am super confused will explain the spirt later

Yeah, her dad.
Oh, that sounds hilarious.
Either way, Williams did a great job as Scott. Stupid bitch.

Okay I was confused but now have figured it out... im a dork. After all the times i've seen it I still need to playbill for help. UGH!
Ryan Wiliams played The spirit of knowbey, usually brandon does it. And he did a good necronomicon!!!
Edit:
"death is a bitch.... a stupid bitch!"
Williams did a very good job!

And the Necronomicon demon isn't even listed in the Playbill, right?
And Spirit of Knowbey is the one that pops through the window in a poncho (not really, but...)?
And what was her name - the replacement Shelly/Annie?
Jenna Coker is HILARIOUS, as well!

The replacement was Christy Mcintosh.
Yes knowbey "popped" through the window in a poncho.
The necronomicon demon is supposed to be scott, i think thats why its not listed.

Haha.
Is it "Knowbey 'popped' through the window in a poncho" or "Knowbey popped through the window in a 'poncho'"?
Christy McIntosh. OK. I thought she made a great Annie. Her Shelly was all right. Best on the bounce.
Stupid bitch! I think that's my new favorite phrase.

Posted: 2/19/07 at 1:36amIm going to say its "Knowbey 'popped' through the window in a poncho." Only because I dont think he "popped" through it. But he did indeed look like he was wearing a torn up poncho or five!

Posted: 2/19/07 at 9:47amA Toronto production is seriously being considered. If it becomes a reality, Ryan Ward will once again play Ash and the rest of the cast will be Canadians.
