RENT AND DREW LACHEY ON MTV!

Okay, so I'm innocently watching Road Rules when what I think for a commercial for Nick And jessica comes on. Then I see Drew Lachey packing and Nick Lachey comes in and starts going "So you're going to Rent Broadway Star?" or something and something that resembles music from Rent is playing in the background and they're discussing the show on MTV!! Can you believe it??

Good for Rent to advertise on MTV. It will bring in new broadway fans.

Hey, if people decide to go see a broadway show because MTV told them too, they just might enjoy it and see another, and another, and another, until they are like us (spending countless hours on BWW when we should be getting ready to go to sleep, so we can wake up at 5:30 for the first day of school)

Well, I guess Rent has already gone mainstream, but if it's at least not on MTV I can pretend it's still 'alternative'. The movie will probably make it worse, it's going to be all cooperate... ugh.

I think its smart advertising. Whatever can open more people's eyes about how wonderful broadway is. Hopefully people who never had exposure to musicals will come to see Drew and realize how great theatre is.

i hate to say this but JUST PUT THE FREAKIN SHOW OUT OF ITS MISERY WHILE IT STILL HAS SOME DIGNITY LEFT!!! I cant stand watching this slow and painful death of the musical any longer....

I know it was just in my Wonderful Town playbill and it pissed me off. To sell the show they're billing him to be in a show that he really isn't in--he just happens to be the brother of the star and was on it a few times.

I know that's true, Kyle, but if MTV isn't endorsing it I can at least delude myself into thinking it isn't mainstream. (Well, in the grand scheme of things none of broadway is mainstream. Most kids at my school think the only musicals in existence are CATS, Phantom, Oklahoma and Grease.)

Well, BG2, we all start somewhere. Broadway is still very new to me, I'm only a few months into really learning about it and too broke to buy and OBCRs. (Though I discovered a few days ago that my library has quite a few, so that will help.)

insomniak, there are wierdos who have seen Rent at least twice a week every week since it opened.... they never do ANYTHING but Rent and Rent related things.....
