ooooh i am FAR from being 'over' rent. I still love it to pieces. and i really have tried to give these people a chance, but I cant. now see im not only talking about the OBC-- some of the newer casts and tours were increadible! but right now, my opinion of the current cast is bad. theyre just too inexperienced. i know larson wanted unknown actors with not many credits but theyve gotta have SOMETHING! some of these kids are like 19/20 years old! I really think that if they either had more prior experience OR more weeks of rehersal before they actually started performing for an audience, the show would be so much better.

Insomniak: I dont think she was referring to you with that comment. And the ICY.R is anything but uninspiring. Who have you seen it performed by? To me, it is the highlight of the show.
However, I do think that RENT could use a good tune up. I am glad Caplan is leaving. He is to freakin happy in the role. Same goes for Kushnier, I am not a fan of his country twang in his voice. He is a talented man but I dont think is is right for the role. His Roger is too confident, I feel that i am constantly repeating myself. But I wont go into SO many details on this. Just a few thoughts!

I love the people who are scared of teeny boppers overflowing the theater. A. Have you been to the theater in the past, oh...three years? B. Wouldn't that require Drew having, say, a lot of fans? I'm sure people like him, but I doubt they're going to be flocking into the Neder.
As for the state of the show, it's no worse off than it has been for quite awhile. A lot of it is perspective. Like how now that everyone has seen Matt Caplan numerous times, it's HIS fault that they no longer like him and HE'S the one that's bored. How about a little give and take? Same with the show as a whole. Sometimes things lose their spark when they're overdone, but that doesn't mean they're solely overdoing it themselves. It takes two, as the saying goes.

Caplan will be around as the Mark standby and probably come back in March when Drew's run is over. The boy's been at it for five years, he really needs to find a new job. He's not fresh anymore and it shows. The whole cast is, they've just gotten too set in their ways now.
GITF, I saw Mark Richard Ford as Collins, and I am aware that I am the only one who doesn't like him. He's just eh for me. I don't love his voice, it's just kinda ordinary.

Posted: 9/7/04 at 8:27pmActually, I heard that Caplan's return is only one option he is looking into, and it depends on if he gets anywhere with his music during his time off. I'm almost positive he isn't even scheduled to standby until at least mid-October, and even that isn't set in stone.

Yeah, Matt has been with the show a LONG time. He could definitley use the break, if not move on to a different project.
As for the whole teeny bopper thing...I'd hate to have a bunch of crazed 98 degrees fans sleazing around the theatre and fogging up the windows.

yeah, Insonmiak, I wasn't referring specifically to you, so please don't take offense =)
Personally, I LOVED Jeremy, and think his voice is wonderful! again, it's all about personal taste. Just because YOU don't like who;s in the show now, doesn't mean the show is in bad shape.
By the way, I had forgotten that I haven't seen Matt Caplan as Mark since the Benny tour in 1999. When I was at the Neder in 2002, he was Roger (and was amazing!) and a few months ago, Sebastian was Mark (I loved him too!) So maybe I would have felt differently if I had ever seen Matt on Broadway. I hear he is getting pretty bored, but, he has his fanbase...He certainly is talented! Just remember everyone, TeenyBoppers are people, too! =) goodnight!

i believe it was the new york times who reviewed the show about a year or so ago and said the same things we are saying here. that michael greif needs to get his ass over to the neder quick and shape up or ship out what is being performed every night on that stage.
as you can see, even on this site the average rating is 3 stars out of 5. usually a show that gets that kind of rating dosent win the tony and the pulitzer. obviously something has changed. i know its only fans who are rating shows on this site but still, it says something. i have been a rent fan for many, many years and the quality of the productions have gone down hill these past couple years. without a doubt. im not sick of the show, but even if i was- you know quality theatre when you see it. and what i have been seeing these past couple years on tour and on broadway, isnt the high quality it used to be.

Posted: 9/7/04 at 11:11pmThank you so much, Kyle. It's a tired production of a great show. That's why I love the tours so much, the cast only stays for a year and they are all dying to be there, so they make every moment count. The energy and effort really let Jonathan Larson's work shine. The broadway gang just isn't feeling it as much these days.

Again, how is that going to be different from the N'Sync fans from two years ago and the (practically non-existant) Spice Girl fans from this year? Does 98 degrees even still HAVE fans?
Personally, I'm excited about Nick and Jessica showing up to see the show. That's going to be hot.
