lol yeah right... it is a good idea in theory.. i have class until 1 that day so I would love to still have some shot of getting over there and trying but part of me thinks it wont even be worth it to try since there will probably be so many people...
so if this thing is really just going to be a concert (and btw- at least 6 of the 8 OBC main characters have some idea of choreography since they did just do the movie not too long ago and used a lot of the same movements) are they doing every song or just the "main" songs. As great as it would be to see the OBC it would be a bit weird to see them all just standing there singing with no costumes, etc since so many people play so many different parts
#27re: RENT Benefit Concert / Lottery Tickets
Posted: 3/31/06 at 10:19amI have no clue. It will probably be like the 5th Anniversary show, where they sang clips from the songs. It was kind of a weird arrangement, and the songs were all out of order.
#28re: RENT Benefit Concert / Lottery Tickets
Posted: 3/31/06 at 10:20amI thought they were going to sing through the entire show, just without much staging.
#29re: RENT Benefit Concert / Lottery Tickets
Posted: 3/31/06 at 10:22amwhat makes you think they can't do the choreography? RENT isn't the biggest dance-based show...and most of these people just finished the movie!

I just talked to NYTW and the person I spoke to wasn't sure of anything really but he did say it will be EVERY SONG in its enirity (sp?) lol, but with limited staging. Meaning there will be costumes (yay plaid pants!!) and some movement, but maybe not every dance sequence or something, he wasn't sure of specifics but it will not just be the OBC standing up there singing. and good news- NO AGE RESTRICTION on the lottery!! Whoever came up with that was full of it lol (no offence to whoever thought that) he said absolutly not, teenagers and everyone are definitly welcome to participate in the lottery.
the only bad news was that there will be NO WAY they will hold the lottery online- they want it to be "authentic" I guess, which sucks for those of you not near NYC
too many ways to fake it I suposse. Anyway heres the info, good luck to everyone participating, I will probably see you there!

no, the age restriction is for the After Party....you have to be 18 or older unless accompanied by an adult, who is 18 or older and the adult HAS to have a ticket...it cant just be a random person off the street...
i am getting more and more excited every day! i have yet to find a dress but that'll come!

"he did say it will be EVERY SONG in its enirity (sp?) lol, but with limited staging. Meaning there will be costumes (yay plaid pants!!)"
How does every song in its entirety translate to they will have costumes? Especially if the person you spoke to "wasn't sure of anything really"? What you're posting is only further confusing people and spreading a bunch of unncessary rumors.
I don't see why everyone seems to think it's impossible to perform these songs without jumping on tables and dancing. It's Rent, not the Macarena.

Thanks for the info! I thought it would be sort of in that sdyle. Not a total production, since the OBC may not have time to totally coreorgraph everything. However, I cannot imagine them singing La Vie Boheme standing still.
Tomorrow will be the start of April, the month of the concert!
I am curious, will the lottery winners be able to attend the after party? I have heard different answers.

This should answer all questions about the lottery and stuff.
The lottery tickets are for the SHOW ONLY! Not the party.

Orangeskittles- thanks for correcting my spelling mistake. And I don't know who I am confusing, it is very simple. And I did not mean for that to translate into them wearing costumes, I meant that to be just an additional piece of information- sorry if it was confusing. Also, I am not starting rumors- this is what NYTW told me. Nothing is concrete yet, I mean the lottery has changed a few times- but this is what he did know for sure:
-They will be singing every song from the show
-They will be wearing costumes
-There will be some movement but not all of the choreography or staging will be done
"I don't see why everyone seems to think it's impossible to perform these songs without jumping on tables and dancing. It's Rent, not the Macarena. "
Obviously you are not that familiar with the show, because if you were you would know that at the first performance after Jonathan's death they were supossed to just do a sing-through and ended up dancing on the tables during La Vie Boheme- that is what I meant by that. That song in particular is full of energy and should be danced to, not sang just standing there with a mic in front of them.

I don't think it's really your place to tell Orangeskittles she "obviously isn't very familiar with the show."
Who are you to tell her that?

bwaylover, you might want to tone down your condescension, not only because it isn't nice, but also because you are inaccurate with some of the things you're saying, in addition to contradicting yourself in the same sentence! You say 'nothing is concrete yet' and then go on to list what is definite, and all this after admitting that the person you got the information from 'wasn't sure of anything really'. No one mentioned an age restriction on the lotto seats, they were talking about the after party.
Comparing what happened at the first show after Jonathan's death (and yes, most of us are familiar with that story and have been for years) when they had been rehearsing for weeks, and this benefit concert which is taking place YEARS after any of them have performed the show onstage, is a little silly. Two totally different things, regardless of the fact that six of them may have been in the movie and performed somewhat similar choreography in maybe one scene. Keep in mind that the movie was filmed several months/a year ago. If you know anything about Broadway show rehearsals, you know that you don't just jump right back into a show, without extensive rehearsals, even if you played the role a year ago, let alone several years ago. No one, including you, knows exactly how the songs will be staged, how they will fit in the other Rent alumni and current castmembers. While it's somewhat reasonable to expect the arm/shoulder movement during LVB, don't go to the show expecting much more than that. Benefit concerts are just that...concerts.

Funny how people that have been here less than 3 months feel that they're in a postition to make that kind of judgement.
Everyone is using that ONE performance right after Jonathan's death as this precedent for all other Rent OBC performances, but it's just NOT the same. There's no way to compare that situation with any other performance and it's really annoying that people seem to think the cast can just dredge up all the emotion they were feeling that night just for the sake of a concert.
And I'm obviously familiar enough with the show to know that they sang La Vie Boheme at the 5th anniversary concert while just standing there with a mic in front of them. Maybe you should do a bit more research youself before questioning someone else's knowledge.

WHOAH there... you guys all need to chill the heck out...I was just trying to pass along some information- yes the guy was a bit vague and did not know ALL the details but he told me a few things that were definite, and that is what I was trying to pass along- just trying to be nice here so back off! Maybe they will stand there in front of the mics, no one knows- I was just giving my opinion.
erinrebecca: I was not being condesceding, I was just saying my opinion and how is it fair for me to have comments made to me in the same tone? Am I not allowed to clarify/defend myself? As for the concert- I know it is just that, but I have seen several places where it has been called a benefit performance, and others concert- so I was just trying to figure out what it was really going to be. And don't talk to me about being nice-you aren't exactly miss sunshine yourself, I was just trying to pass along what I was told by NYTW.
As for the age restriction, there was a previous thread in which someone started a rumor about one and I just wanted to clarify that there wasn't one.
And you know what, it doesn't matter how long I have been here, I just did not come across this site beforehand but that does not make me any less of a fan of broadway, which is what I thought this site was about. I guess its more about bashing people for their opinions and making fun of them because they haven't spent their whole life on this site. I can make any kind of judgement I want, if I was wrong about you, sorry -I did not mean for it to get so out of hand, I just did not like the tone you used with me.
Again- I was just trying to pass along information- this got way out of hand and you guys should be a bit more friendly- if you want your own exclusive broadway fan club start one yourself- but last time I checked this site was open to ANYONE and people should not be bashed because they joined after you did or because of their opinions.

Um, yeah, I mentioned when you joined because you obviously don't know enough about me personally to make assumptions about how much I know about the show.
As for the rest of your post...well, don't blame us for the argument you started.
