RENT CAST LIVE TONIGHT...anyone going

I'm very tempted to convince someone to lend me their ID, but I think I'll pass because I have papers to write.

I work across the street from Virgin so I had a lengthy conversation with the manager there today.

The doors open at 9am. The first 200 people to buy the highlights CD (which is being released on Monday morning) will receive a free movie poster and a wristband. The band guarantees that you will be able to get either your "Rent" CD or your poster signed at 4pm. The following 300 people to buy the highlights CD will also get wristbands and the chance to get their CD signed at 4pm but they will not get the free poster. The maximum people being admitted is 500. There was no talk of a performance at all. Whether or not other items besides the poster or either of the 2 movie soundtracks can be signed will be up to the cast members and their reps but in 99% of the cases at Virgin, it is the purchased item only. That means you can get your double disc CD signed, your highlights CD signed, or your free movie poster, but likely nothing else and I'm sure it's being limited to one item per person.

The manager advised people to not bother showing up on Monday morning with a receipt for the "Rent" CD (even if it was purchased at Virgin) and think you can get a wristband. From what I was told, they're being given at the counter when you purchase the CD. You can't get one without purchasing either the highlights CD or the soundtrack.

Any idea what time people will start lining up in the morning?

It's at four. I was procrastinating yet again and called up Virgin a couple of times and spoke with different people. I got the same info that Fantabulous posted. From the 3 people I spoke with, all of them said that there are no plans for a performance...one of them alluded to there maybe being a q&a/chat with that cast (which I honestly can't see happening) but she just vaguely mentioned that it's really just up to the cast as far as Virgin is concerned they are only there to sign. The people at Virgin said the cast will only be signing the poster and the CD, and basically if you don't get the CD and a wristband you're not getting in. (Then the really friendly person I was speaking with started talking about [insert name of country/pop singer] Jessica Simpson? Sheryl Crowe being late to the event, but she stayed later.)

Is the entire cast going to be there tonight? I remember reading on another thread on BWW that it was part of the cast...

Just by the sounds of it, if you don't have a wristband you're not getting remotely close the cast. Although I might be entirely wrong. Hrrrrm...why is it that I've never been to any even at the Times Sq store?

thats what I was wondering too. I have class at 4, and the earliest I can get there is 4:25. If I have a wristband, do you think it's not worth it if I can't be there at 4? I thought that if there's 500 people, someone has to be the last one- maybe I could just hop on to the end of the line.

I actually went to that club tonight, I thought I'd give it a try.

LAME, LAME, LAME. Be glad you didn't go.

The RENT film cast wasn't even there. Yes, there was a performance by the RENT cast - but certainly not the RENT film cast. I became aware this afternoon that it would be something strange when one of the cast members told me that they had no idea what this thing at Spirit was even about. STill, I decided I'd go.

They didn't even get to the RENT part of the evening until around 1:30-1:45. Jai Rodriguez came out, told some terrible jokes, acted like a complete moron, then sang "I'll Cover You" with the current Collins. Then the current soloist came out and sang her solo part with a techno-background. Then, they played the SEASONS OF LOVE remix (over and over) while three people dressed in RENT costumes danced.

That was it. You guys didn't miss anything.

I would've asked for my money back. They advertised that the Rent MOVIE cast would be there, and that's what you paid for. They failed to deliver, so they shouldn't have gotten your money.
