Where did you see it was taped by Lincoln Center? The show was recorded but I don't believe it was by them. Lincoln Centers videos of the show are a recording of the show from before it transfered to Broadway and a 3 minute press reel with Joey Fatone.
Well, Lincoln Center Archives does generally tape things like this, so I assume they were indeed there. It certainly wouldn't turn up in their online catalog though already, Jordan. It takes almost a year for a show to be ready to be "viewed."
No, I know it takes quite a while for it to actually be listed, I just don't believe they were the ones taping it. Easy enough to find out, though.
If you think it's expensive to record a cd and pay everyone's salary to make that happen - believe me - you can't even imagine the costs involved in recording it for dvd release...
Whoever said they should write letters was right. Petitons really don't do anything in the end except create clutter and end up in the hands of people who aren't important. If you want to take a stand organize a letter writing project, or send in cowbells or something like that. Do something to make people take notice.
Craig, we know that. But it's happened. With shows that probably would not sell as well as Rent.

Lol!
Sony doesn't own the rights to the show, they own the rights to the screenplay. Big difference.
The taping that I saw going on looked like it was being done for more than Lincoln Center, they had a staff of about 10 working on it in the garage next door. All the wire feeds led into there and there were several small monitors that the video crew was setting up.
As for a video release, my opinion is that we won't see it anytime soon, but I don't think it's impossible either. If the demand exists they will probably see the potential to earn even more money for these extraordinary organizations, and try to release it. I think (and again, this is still only my opinion) that if they had announced a DVD release that they would have worried that less people would pay for tickets.
Just my two cents...and the petition is signed.
Take this into consideration. EVERYONE involved in the concert would have to be paid for a DVD release. And given the enormity of the past alumni at the end, I doubt it will happen. Not saying it won't - it's just not very likely. You can't compare this, with say any of Sondheim's shows that are on DVD because they were taped specifically for broadcast/dvd rights. And the cast size (even for Sweeney) pales in comparison to the amount of people on the Nederlander stage at the end.

If they did record it for a DVD release or whatever, I'd be willing to bet it will only be sold as like a two-DVD set with the film. Either way, only time will tell...
Oh, and meagan, your av is out of date
But then you have the Les Misérables TAC....
Yes, at this point, this is all very unlikely, but I'm saying its a shame that it IS that way.
But if contracts were revised than there wouldn't be all these roadblocks preventing things like this from being released so that everyone who either couldn't afford the outrageous ticket prices (yes I know it was for charity, but still...) or the rest of the population who lives nowhere near New York could see this and others.
But that won't be happening anytime soon.
So it is!!! I'm changing it! I don't know what to make it though.
Some of what you may have seen probably had to do with the fact that the alumni involved in the finale were apparently watching a live video feed from next door.
"But then you have the Les Misérables TAC.... "
That was also internationally done :) Different laws apply
the petition is addressed to the wrong people. I just read that.
Em, they were watching from the garage?
I heard they were watching in a bar, but so much of Monday is now like a game of telephone, so... who knows?
The bar makes more sense to me.
They were watching from the hotel next door. There was some sort of crew with all kinds of audio machinery and such in the garage as well.
I think the crew in the garage was not intended to be seen.

Someone please tell me how this online petition is miraculously going to give us the golden ticket?
If you really want to make a stand and get that DVD, this is NOT the way to go. GO out, write letters, knit dozens of scarves and mail them, do something fun. This is what fans of tv shows do to get their shows released on DVD or show that there is a dedicated fanbase to get another season. Use them as an example. And if this online thing is the way to go, you all should be ashamed. The fans of Everwood kick more butt than you.
you can always try. but its likely there will be no DVD. I'm kind of hoping the soundboard got a great recording. that could sell easily.
TV shows are created FOR broadcast; getting that on DVD and getting this on DVD are completey and totally different, Fabala.
I doubt any effort is going to give the "golden ticket," honestly, but if people want to try, who's it hurting? Writing letters MIGHT be of use, but with a petition, you can show that it's backed by a lot of people without the inundation of thousands of letters.
"I think the crew in the garage was not intended to be seen."
Yet it was. :)
As for the petition: THAT petition ain't gonna do anything. I signed just for the hell of it, but if people want to at least put a realistic effort in, they'll have to try better than that.
The problem is, there are way too many people who justify not trying. I guess that's how life in general is, eh?
If the recording was made for the Lincoln Center archives, who would have access to it and be allowed to view it? Why do does the Lincoln Center need it for?
I talked to a former cast member at the party and he said they were watching from Bar 41.
