I'd KILL to hear Adam sing it.

i've still never heard open road... *is sad* YAY

As much as I adore What You Own, Open Road is beautiful and completely appropriate for that part.

However, since the two songs are supposed to occur at the same time...I'm thinking that after Goodbye Love, we see Roger singing Open Road, do a bit of Mark working on Buzzline and then do WYO.

changing the subject a bit... i wanted you guys to read this but i didn't want to start a whole new thread...

i borrowed the harry potter 1 movie soundtrack to try to find music for my gymnastics floor routine, and i came across this in the CD insert:

"When I began the process of turning "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" into a film, my one goal was to remain true and faithful to the spirit of the book. That meant shooting the entire picture in England, casting all British actors and not straying far from the original text of the novel."

-- CHRIS COLUMBUS, London, September 21, 2001

clearly, columbus has his heart in the right place. rent can be compared to harry potter because columbus is the link between the two. there has been a lot of bad publicity of columbus and the rent movie, and i feel the need to defend him.

every time i come across something like this it makes me more and more confident that columbus will do a phenomenal job. he might not have been my first choice for this movie, especially considering his "family film" tendencies, but i believe he will "remain true and faithful to the spirit of the" musical. he is shooting all necessary scenes in new york, casting as many OBC as possible, and keeping as close as possible to larson's original script. WHAT MORE COULD WE ASK FOR? (rhetorical YAY )

harry potter has its major fans (including myself) that would have been extremely upset if the movie deviated from the novel. the same is true for rent and the rentheads. and as far as i know i have never met anyone that was upset with the first harry potter movie. obviously, it is impossible to please everyone, but we will be happy with rent. i'm sure of it. THINK POSITIVE! We'll be OKAY! (sorry... sorry... couldn't resist) YAY

thanks for reading YAY *steps off soapbox*

*applauds* THANK you, Beka, for pointing that out. Columbus was more true to HP than Cuaron was. I have very little fear that there will be major plot changes (except for the gay marriage part) or cuts.

And what more can we ask for? NYTW songs! *sighs* Too bad Mark's priceless line in that can't be used.

I can see Maureen trying to convince Joanne about a shotgun Vegas wedding or something like that.

I just uncovered a love for her right now. Such a very complicated character- but you can't help but love her.

Yeah, but the part that bugs me most about them adding that part is that it seems like just an easy way to get into 'Take Me or Leave Me' rather than a choice that they put a lot of thought into. I mean its like a 3 second thing "You wanna get married?" "Okay." If they had thought more about what the characters would really do I think I'd agree with the changes a lot more. I mean, I like what they added to Angel's death scene, but that's because they obviously put a lot of thought into that. I hope they change the scene with Maureen and Joanne.

I might have to go and double check that, but I think the thing that makes TMOLM work great is that Maureen and Joanne are stubborn, which is why their relationship is like it is. Columbus might need to work with that.

It is GREAT to see this thread again.

I believe Tango Maureen is staged beautifully. It reminds me of the movie version of Chicago but I believe that with this particular song it works.

Hmmm, if I remember right (feel free to correct me, I have an awful memory for the most part, and I'm still waiting for the script to load so I can reread this scene, I'm just impatient) this is the part at like a party after they decide to get married? Well, for the most part I like this scene (Thank God they didn't cut any of the song out!), but as I said before (the reasoning sucked, I was in a wierd mood that day) I don't really like the random idea of their marriage, I mean, I think they could have put more thought into it (they meaning Columbus), and personally I don't really understand if there's a relevance to having Maureen's parents be so...odd... Anyway I guess I always imagined Maureen with really awesome parents, like, you know, the ideal parents. Cuz Maureen rocks... I dunno that's all I can really remember off the top of my head.( Gosh my computer loads so slowly!)

iheartmark-it takes place the same place it did in the stage show. It is a fantasy sequence where Maureen is dancing with numerous partners.

In response to the question that was actually asked, I really like the idea for the fantast sequence and everything. I think the scene was very well written.

Who else cried while reading Angel's death scene? That's one change I love. (Plus, no 'Contact'!! Score.) ^-^

There's a new article somewhere on Broadway.com that someone just told me about... stage notes, I think. New stuff about how they're screwing with the script and the gay marriage stuff. Hm.
