Posted: 6/24/08 at 2:55pmhaha sgtdonut, and our Benny is white as well. Honestly it doesnt make a huge difference. I do however like that we have a black collins.

Posted: 6/24/08 at 3:26pmI'm reading the revisions. Is it me, or did they cut all references to Mimi doing drugs? How exactly does that work?

Has anyone seen both versions? I'm curious to see how different the school version is as a finished product.
I've never seen the school version, but I'm thinking it might be like Sex and the City on TBS...it's kind of the same show, but it's so much better on HBO.

i can see how mature people are on this board.
our Benny is white as well.
anyways, you know Mimi has drug addiction. the only verse they cut from light my candle is the "You look like you're 16.." and that's really all. She comes back looking for her stash and she grabs it at the end. Also in Christmas Bells she has her deal with the drug dealer, she also does it in Happy New Year B.
In Out Tonight, it goes from the end of the first chorus to "In the evening i've got to roam.."
Another Day has 2 verses cut.
In Christmas Bells they cut the fun part of everybody singing different things at once. La Vie Boheme they cut "Bisexuals trisexuals.." all of that verse.
Without You has some verses missing and obviously Contact is cut.
Also, not a cut, but One Song Glory and Will I are written in a lower key which is better.
That's really it. The show still flows the same and it's the same meaning as the original show.

Posted: 6/24/08 at 6:10pmAngel is a boy in our production. I don't see the big fuss about having a white Collins or Benny. Considering I think it'd be nice to see someone else be portrayed as the asshole rather than a black man, and it doesn't say they're supposed to be black anywhere. Our teacher got a callback for the Angel tour as Collins and he's white.

Posted: 6/24/08 at 6:54pmGlory: Not according to that thread that discusses the cuts. According to that, all of the drug references in "Christmas Bells" are gone, as well as the whole looking for the stash part of "Light My Candle."

Posted: 6/24/08 at 6:56pmoh the director of that production might of cut it, i'm in it and i've been in rehearsals for the past 3 weeks and it's in the script.

#39re: RENT School Edition
Posted: 6/24/08 at 7:47pmWhat the hell? The meaning of this show has nothing to do with being black or with being addicted to drugs. The drug references are there, they just never flat out say she's an addict, it's heavily referenced.

The meaning of the show has nothing to do with being addicted to drugs???
Did you see the same RENT I did????
#42re: RENT School Edition
Posted: 6/24/08 at 7:55pmIt doesn't. The storyline does but the meaning, being "No Day But Today" has nothing to do with being a drug addict, if it is then it sends out a terrible message.

Posted: 6/24/08 at 7:57pmTheatreFreak - I saw the RENT with Gaiken as Mimi and Patti as Roger. They got together at the end and sang a camfire song. That's the one I SAW.

andrewcomp: RENT sort of does have a terrible message, when you think about it.
I'm sorry, but I think that Mimi being a drug addict and Roger being a recovered addict are very important to the show.
