RENT Tour 4/14/06 Review

For those of you who are sick of hearing about the RENT tour, I apologize...but this is the only place where I could really talk about it in "technical" terms where someone might give a damn lol.

Alrighty. So, having seen the show twice before, I wasn't expecting to be blown away by this cast, but BOY was I wrong. Bryce Ryness as Roger was absolutely amazing. AMAZING. Wow can he sing. His Roger was just the right blend of brooding/angry and hopeful, and his "One Song Glory" was phenominal. Jed as Mark was alright. I wasn't blown away, but his Mark was cute and innocent (something I never would have imagined, but hey, it worked for him). Mimi...hmmm...at times her voice was very....you could just tell that she'd been on tour for awhile. I think she has the potential to be really good, but she just needs to learn to take care of her voice. Her movements and emotions were great, though. (Sorry to not use names anymore but I don't have the program in front of me) Both Angel and Collins were PHENOMINAL, both vocally and acting-wise. Same with Maureen and Joanne, although Maureen's "Over The Moon" was....not good. At all. It really wasn't very funny to me. The SoL soloist was really great, as was whoever sang the first solo part of "Will I?" (Steve, is it? I forget.) Overall the show was great, and most all the performers were super friendly at the stage door afterwards.

Did you get to meet Joanne? I wanted to but I went to a matinee and she didn't come out. I was upset because she was the main reason why I went to the stage door, and the fact it was my first stage door experience.

She's been on tour for 2 1/2 months, just like the rest of the cast, and, unfortunately, she has sounded like this since opening night in York.

I saw her at the door in Milwaukee. She chatted a bit and I got my picture taken with her. She's very sweet.

As for Mimi -- I will give her credit for her acting ability. When she sang softly it was fine, but otherwise...I dunno. I don't want to sound mean, but it wasn't that great. I thought maybe she was sick, but I've heard from a few people that she always sounds like that.
