RENT conspiracy theory

okay, so i got the soundtrack back in sept right and listened to it incessantly. and i always thought that rosario was singing during "will i" because it sounds just like her voice on the rest of the album and then i saw the movie and it's either pam or sue at life support. hmmm.
did anyone else experience this??
re: RENT related question#1
Posted: 12/10/05 at 11:58pmyep... exactly the same thing happened to me
re: RENT related question#2
Posted: 12/10/05 at 11:59pmme! it could be rosario's voice because during life support I don't believe the camera is on pam or sue while that very distinctly female voice is singing.
re: RENT related question#4
Posted: 12/11/05 at 12:03amI defitnaly thought that was Rosarios voice until I saw the movie. But is was the girl who played Sue singing, or she was lipsyncing to Rosarios vocals. Because she stood up and was clearly singing.

Posted: 12/11/05 at 12:17ami don't know when i heard "will i" in the motion picture soundtrack it sounded like it did on the stage, every cast member joins in on the round. In the film you may not see them all which i think is a flaw in the film but their voices are there

Maybe they recorded Rosario's voice, and in the end decided not to put her in the scene?
Heck... there might even be a scene on there kinda like Rodger's, with her walking down the street singing it. We'll never know.

I thought that it might be Rosario's voice on the soundtrack at first, but if it was then they probably just decided to have someone else lip synch the part in the scene.
I also think that the version of Will I that appears in the movie is mixed differently. In the movie, you can hear Roger's part REALLY clearly, and I can barely pick it out on the soundtrack, if at all.
re: RENT related question#8
Posted: 12/11/05 at 12:26amI hear Roger's part on the soundtrack clearly. I never even thought that it wasn't Rosarios voice..but now ill have to listen to the soundtrack. Thats kinda ..weird.

Actually, the camera does show the women singing that part and Mimi's not even at that meeting.
I thought the same thing. I was certain it was Rosario when I first heard it.

re: RENT related question#12
Posted: 12/11/05 at 1:14amIf you compare it Will I on the OBCR, that part was sung by Daphne, so it being sung by Rosario on the soundtrack (which was recorded before the movie) would make sense.

re: RENT related question#14
Posted: 12/11/05 at 1:30amIt definitely is Rosario's voice. I was so confused when I saw the movie because Rosario's voice is so distinct. It was driving me crazy. Thanks for the post I was really wondering if anyone heard this too!

that is most definitely rosario's pretty vocals during "will i"?
she's singing the part daphne sings on the OBC.
columbus obviously had the actress playing "sue" lip sync to rosario's already recorded vocals.
i always thought that columbus was going to get creative and really open this number up by starting out at the life support meeting and then have a montage (showing different characters going on with their daily lives while singing the song...)
too bad he decided to stay so static and just have it stay at the life support meeeting...

Posted: 12/11/05 at 2:35ammaybe they wanted to make the sound "meaty" so there were a lot of different voices to make a more full sound. and then maybe they did decide to have sue lip sync to it. the whole meaty thing is also in the wicked cast recording (sorry to go kinda off topic) during what is this feeling when the other students join in you can hear kristin chenoweth in the background singing at the same time her part galinda is singing. lol, i always thought that was funny.

I thought it was Rosario's voice, but then again, I thought Wayne Wilcox sang the Will I? solo at the beginning for some reason. I knew Aaron Lohr was playing Steve, and Steve sang Will I?, but... I dunno. I had a good laugh at myself when I figured it out.
But, anyhoo, that's really odd that they had Sue singing that part. I mean, if the camera wasn't focused on her, no one would have noticed, but still...
re: RENT related question#18
Posted: 12/11/05 at 10:04amI think a lot of the movie was mixed differently than the soundtrack...during SOL in the movie I'm pretty sure you can hear whoever is closest more for a moment as the camera goes down the line. So then I started looking for other differences. Is it Wayne who sings? Or is it the other guy??
re: RENT related question#19

Actually, having now seen the movie, a LOT of vocal credit questions have been cleared up for me.
Outside of the main cast, they only credit Aaron Lohr (Steve) and Wayne Wilcox (Gordon) for singing. I didn't know if there was a vocal ensemble that they didn't credit, or what... but now we know who's singing at the end of "Another Day" with Mimi and Roger (won't spoil it, but it's not an ensemble) and I'm willing to bet on "Will I?" they just used the core 8 with Aaron and Wayne.

Posted: 12/11/05 at 11:05amIt's like the show "Lost" ... the more clues they give us to play with, the more sucked in we get. :) They don't really want us do get our work done ... not when there are singers to be figured out and disappearing people on subways! :)
