Now this is interesting. While on the RENT page of Fandango, I saw a banner with the "Playbill" image. I clicked and it re-directed me to American Express...which is using RENT to advertise Gold Credit Cards. (http://www.800thecard.com/flash.html?entrypoint=gce). A show about bohemians with no money being used to sell credit cards?! The irony is ridiculous. For all I know, this could already have been a marketing campaign since it was a Playbill image, though RENT would seem an odd choice to use. The explicit link to the movie, however, makes it no accident.
What other cross-marketing do we see?
I have read of the make-up, which is a curious tie-in for a show that doesn't really feature a particular make-up or strong character associations (unlike, say, Wicked Stila make-up).
Anything else, so far?

There's also that "beauty book" from Ulta cosmetics. I actually like some of the colors, haha.

Posted: 11/18/05 at 8:09pmThe lipgloss name makes sense when you look at it from the couple standpoint. Mimi & Roger makes a much more appealing lipgloss than Maureen & Joanne or Angel & Collins. : (Unfortunately, society can still be very close-minded.)
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

I agree that people who don't know Rent would assume Angel to be female.
As to the credit card, that card is very useful if you're going to buy tickets to shows. They are made available to Gold Card members before they go public often, and they do get discounts. Although in subject matter it is odd and ironic to advertise Gold Card through Rent, it makes sense because Rent IS a Broadway show that you can use your Gold Card to buy tickets through.
