re: RENT film in Show people

No?

I just wanted to express my love and affection for Adam's long hair in that BEAUTIFUL and GORGEOUS picture of him. Really, he looks incredible.

I love love LOVE the opening of the article.

Heartstrings tugged. It always meant a lot to me that they actually shot Glory in New York.

re: RENT film in Show people

"A decade later the new audience that Rent now courts may not know- or even care- about the show's emotional history."

Are you kidding me? I was just thinking that you can't find a single article about Rent where Jonathan Larson's death isn't mentioned, then they pull this. There were multiple posts here last January on the anniversary of his death. Everyone's main concern for the movie was whether it matched Jon Larson's original vision- even before the OMG OBC! campaigns started. I just find this line really offensive, because this person clearly didn't speak to any fans of the show before making this blanket statement.

re: RENT film in Show people

Interesting; the article expected an R rating; and quotes Anthony as saying the same. Sounds like we weren't the only ones who were surprised.

orange, I'd like to hope that was a poorly stated way of saying that maybe some of the newer generation don't find the emotional core, but are the types that are just like "OMG RENT BEST THING EVER SO AMAAAAAAAZING!" because it's the "cool" thing to do to be obsessed with Rent. The time that's gone by may make it easier for people to be more removed from the actual events that tie people who experienced it so closely to the material.

re: RENT film in Show people

I can't get over how young they all look in their original headshots. However, I have maintained this since the day i found out they were cast in the film. Even though they look older, they all look better now than they did then.

re: RENT film in Show people

Yeah, but even the OMG RENT! fans I've come across at least know about Jon Larson's legacy, it's not like his story has disappeared over time, and they definitely care about it.

And the new fans that come along better do some damn research before shrieking that they're NUMBER1RENTHEADEVER!!! re: RENT film in Show people

The article says SOL is played over the opening credits. I was so right, I need to dig up that post where I guessed that months ago.

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

re: RENT film in Show people

Well, you can know about it and go "oh, man... that's so like... DEEP, dude," but not really... GET it. I've come across a lot of people who... I feel like they say it because they know they're supposed to feel it, or something, but don't really. They just want to look like they're impacted because that's the thing to do. And that's weird.

re: RENT film in Show people

Which is why seeing tick tick BOOM should be mandatory for all Rent fans!

Seriously though, there's only so much you can do to feel for someone you never knew that died 5 years before you'd ever heard of him, so people shouldn't feel bad because their grief isn't as holy as thou's (universal thou, not thee specifically).

I would never try to compare my feelings on it to the people that worked with him or his friends and family. But I know that I care more than this article would lead people to believe.

re: RENT film in Show people

Of course. And I plead guilty as charged -- I always *knew* what happened for as long as Rent has been a part of my life, but this past year's anniversary of Jonathan's death was the first year that I truly felt something. I think TTB played a huge part in that.

re: RENT film in Show people

Great article! Thanks for posting it. Did anyone notice that one of the captions for the picture of Chris talking to Anthony and Tracie says "Chris Columbus confers with Adam Rapp and newcomer Tracie Thoms." Adam? Did they mistake him for his brother or accidentally type the beginning of Adam Pascal before realizing the mistake? Other then that, really awsome article though, and amazing pics. I'm definitly hunting a copy of this down. re: RENT film in Show people

I noticed that too. Adam Rapp? Some mistake.

re: RENT film in Show people

It's a consistant mistake though, they called Anthony by his brother's name in the last article they did on the film
