"2--RENT soundtrack. Nine years after Johnathan Larson's brilliant score lit up Broadway, the movie version's cast recording (including new voice Rosario Dawson) still hits all the right notes."
This is good! But why don't they mention Traci as a new voice?

This movie is usually known to the public as "Rent the musical with ROSARIO DAWSON!"
Everyone else is just backround noise.
too bad my local cinema ain't playing the film any more. only ran it for 2 weekends!! now i've gotta wait til the dvd is released!
So travel to see it.
*inserts Tracie love*
Is this the new issue of Entertainment Weekly?
That's great to hear!
This is off-topic, but I wanted to express March of the Penguins love. I adored that documentary, and am definitely buying the DVD. Penguins are the best animals ever.

insomniak complained:

well, insomniak it's not her fault people single her out i mean she was outstanding in the movie and she is the most high profile performer in it. there's just no ifs and or buts about it.

Marquise, neither I nor anyone I know have ever heard of Rosario Dawson before Rent.
She's a fine actress, but I'm a little tired of the incessant, shameless vehicle that Rent has become for her career and HER career alone.
Of the newcomers I liked Tracie more. Both were good, but I agree about Rent turning into a vehicle for Dawson's career. It just seems like Tracie was the one they turned to each time to make the company songs sound exceptional- she's always the one you can hear above the others singing her own unique part. I think her talent is overshadowed by Dawson's. Perhaps because she doesn't have as much face time, which is obviously important in a movie.
well i'm sure this will do much more for rosario's career than Josie did. whether thats a good thing or not has not been determined

I don't think that Rent is going to help Rosario's career as much as Sin City did. I know a lot more people that saw that than saw Rent, even though I tried to force everyone I know to see Rent.
insomniak she's had a career for 11 years, ended up on numerous covers ( including Vanity Fair's Hollywood issue cover which is incredibly elite. she was on it twice might I add ), just because you didn't know who she was doesn't mean no one else has.
Also not her fault that her publicist does a much better job at promoting her than those of the other cast members.

joliz, I totally agree -- People keep saying "I had never heard of her before!" and I can only think "well... then you haven't been paying attention to Hollywood, because she's been around for awhile - and in a lot of movies."
Her publicist is way more attuned to what sells, who to talk to, what magazine photoshoots and talk shows to book, etc. She's been doing it longer than any of the other actors' publicists. And good for her! 'Rent' I think will definitely boost her career, because it shows her versatility. Both of the 'Sin City' movies, the same. But her big break? Yeah, that will come in the form of Kevin Smith's new movie 'Passion of the Clerks'... that's a WHOLE different league in my opinion.
I'm just saying, don't knock her for being more in demand than the others. I, myself, would kill to have Idina break out big time (in my opinion, she's on her way), but I'm not gonna get all pissy and bitchy because Rosario's name is mentioned first. That's just petty - Be satisfied that 'Rent' is getting mentioned at ALL.
i couldn't have said it better myself joliz!

StarbuckQAF you're right, and I don't know, I hope Clerks 2 can boost her more but Kevin Smith hasn't exactly been on the ball lately considering Jersey Girl, but yea, if she continues to keep getting roles in highly anticipated films (like Rent, Clerks 2, Sin City 2) she's going to move into that A list pretty soon.
I mean no offense to the other actors in the film but really, Idina has all the posibility to be a starlet but I don't know how great a job of marketing her, same with everyone else. It would also help if they all got their hands on good scripts but that's another story.
