The matinee on Sat May 10 will be performance number 5,000 for RENT. Anyone know if they have anything special planned? Or is 5,000 no longer considered a milestone?
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
By my calculation the matinee on May 24th is the 5000th performance.
EDIT- I'm using ibdb.com and not playbill.com's list which has a few other errors.
This date (with the use of reverse counting) was also confirmed by Entertainment Weekly when they ran their article on Rent's initial closing date and mentioned it was closing with 5,011 or 5,012 performances, something like that.

I second this question!
Well as of April 13 it was at 4,971 perfs.
By my calculations that's 29 perfs to go, putting it on Saturday the 10th.

4963 as of April 20, 2008 per ibdb
4971 as of April 27th, 4979 as of May 4th, 4987 as of May 11th, 4995 as of May 18th, which brings you to the matinee of May 24th for the 5000th show.
Back to the main question, will there be anything special that day?

I don't know if anything is planned. I was just searching and got nothing.
How sad.
They totally should do something!

This thread is too mathematical.
As i said, its sad!
They'll never, ever have their 525,600th show!!
WAHHH!
Oh the humanity of it all!!!
*sniff*
*shakes hand to the heavens*
Damn you!!
Wickedboy2,
Why do you say this is sad? Is it because you don't like the show and you find it sad that it finally is reaching this far in terms of a performance count.
I see frogs_fan. Playbill lists 4,971 as of April 13, but IBDB lists 4,963 as of April 20. I wonder if Playbill is including the 16 previews as part of the tally? That would account for the discrepency. If so, they are wrong, you are right and that puts the 5,000th on May 24.
Either way, we still don't know if anything special is planned.
