wth!!??!?! how did he pass away?
Wasn't he in his mid 30's or something?
Derek turned 38 in November
Very sad (and shocked) to hear about this passing! I remember Derek from when he was a contestant on the 2007 Grease reality show. I had the great pleasure of seeing him on stage as Johnny Cash in the first national tour of Million Dollar Quartet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he toured with Grease after he did it on Broadway in 2008. He toured a few years before--before the reality show.
It's just so sad that he is gone. He was so vibrant, and talented, and so young. I wonder why playbill hasn't covered his death at all.

The only production of Grease Derek did after the Broadway closing was in Turkey.
I know it doesn't really matter and it's none of my business but- when someone dies at such a young age, 38 here, I think it's human nature to at least know what happened. I did a quick search looking under Mr. Keeling's name and found no cause of death.
His family has not released that information. And, you're right - it doesn't matter. All that matters is that someone who was deeply loved is gone. Someone who was immensely talented will never write another song. Someone who will be missed forever.
