RIP Madeleine Sherwood

RIP Madeleine Sherwood

She originated the role of Abigail Williams in Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" and played "Mae" in both the stage and screen versions of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".

She also played "Lucy" in the stage and screen versions of "Sweet Bird of Youth".

She's mostly remembered for her role as the Mother Superior on the Sally Field sit-com "The Flying Nun".

She was an active supporter of the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s and worked alongside Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

RIP talented lady.

RIP Madeleine Sherwood

From the Actors Studio to Sister Woman to The Crucible to Do I Hear a Waltz to the Mother Superior.

From the backlist to Martin Luther King to women's consciousness raising.

What a life!

RIP Madeleine Sherwood

RIP indeed. What a loss. I loved her in everything she did. Sister Woman….what a great performance.

And always loved her in The Flying Nun.

Funny how you can connect with people you've never met, just by the legacy they left behind in performances.

Always sad to see those from the golden age of theater leaving us, but least we'll always have some of her great performances on celluloid and elsewhere to enjoy and remember her by.
