After 63 (!) years with the Shubert Organization, Chairman Emeritus Philip J. Smith has passed away at age 89 from COVID-19 complications.

Rest in peace!

In mid-2019,  Hugh Jackman proudly announced that part of the audience sitting with us at his show at Madison Square Garden was Mr. Phil Smith.

He was not only a titan on Broadway but he also supported its stars!

Very sad to hear.

Only became aware of him last year after reading Razzle Dazzle. At least based on that, he seemed to be an extraordinary man of great importance. How lucky we were to have him. Rest in peace.

Knew who he was for years. I got to meet him a few years ago. For anyone who knows the history of the Organization you know how he rose up in the ranks. I was almost shaking when I met him. He was very nice. May he rest in peace.
