The Last Ship was better than Honeymoon in Vegas, obviously.
The real answer to that question, and all other similar questions, is because the nominators wanted to nominate The Last Ship over Honeymoon in Vegas.

Yeah i saw the last ship, and really loved the music. But book and Best Musical? c'mon
Honeymoon was way better crafted and more enjoyable then The Last Ship. I also suspect the same thing with Finding Neverland. Seriously shocked that The Last Ship got one. I almost feel like the OCC tries to recognize people that won't be recognized come tony time

That's your opinion, Philly. I've said it before and I'll say it again: there is a lot of affection for TLS in the theater industry. This nomination is not a surprise.

Hey i actually enjoyed The Last Ship a lot. I think TLS and Honeymoon were both good, but Honeymoon in Vegas went through the ringer when they were on Broadway. They deserve more, and I will be damned if Rob Mcclure isn't recognized with a Tony nom.

'It shows how little they know/care that they only have one category for each of the design elements, lumping play and musical together.'
That's how the Tony Awards did it for decades, too, until 2000.

Have to admit, the nominations for IT Should Have Been you are a bit strange. Its kinda cute, but nominations??? Also it what universe is John Doyle's work worthy of a nomination. ZZZZ

David Hyde Pierce...over John Doyle & Bartlett Sher?
NO NO NOway! that's a JOKE!

Possibly Pierce got it as he took less and made it more whereas Doyle had K/E and Chita to work with and Sher had King & I.
Not justifying the 2 omissions just trying to somewhat rationalize it.A great cast and Pierce's direction made a silk purse out of a sows ear and maybe that was their thinking - as crazy as it was

You may be the only person to diss these 2 shows. I have not seen either one but believe Home can never live up to all the hype. If I get around to seeing either one, I will get back to you.I believed the hype on Mormon and was really disappointed.

Mr. Roxy,
Hard as it may be to believe, these two are even worse than Book of Mormon.
A chilling thought, isn't it?

It would indeed be chilling but I will judge for myself if I even see them.

After Eight I hate to beak it to you but the only reason Fun Home didn't receive any nods from OCC this season is because it was Off Broadway last season and the OCC honored it then.

Yes, I am entirely aware of that.
Yet, not having to be reminded of its odious presence for even just a moment was what was so eminently gratifying.
That seems to have utterly escaped you.

I was not aware you were not a fan of it until today as you are the first one I came across who did not care for it.
Rest assured, I shall not mention it again .

Would that others here displayed similar courtesy and consideration.

"That seems to have utterly escaped you."
Indeed. Rather than assuming you didn't know better, I deigned to afford you the undeserved credit of not enjoying the thrill of a fool in a meretricious paradise.
You are right. I should have known better.

I'm glad Raul wasn't nominated.
(I know he wasn't in anything but I'm still glad).

Always secretly sided with After Eight, but the fact that you didn't like Book of Mormon, Fun Home, OR Hand to God? I didn't love Hand to God, but I LOVE Fun Home. It's had an emotional connection to me for which I have no explanation given that I'm not a lesbian nor do I have a gay father. But I love it.
