I have been searching everywhere for pictures of the set for Rabbit Hole and can't find them anywhere!
If you have some I'd love to see them!
Thanks!

History Boys is a great play, i.e. it won for Best Play, but how in the HELL did it win for BEST SET DESIGN over Rabbit Hole?!!?!
?????????
That one has me really confused!
I always hate doing the "it should have gone this way instead of..." b/c it's over and done w/ but John Lee Beatty definitely deserved the award for the Rabbit Hole set. The thing was on turn-tables for Christ's Sake!!
I disliked Rabbit Hole's set - I thought some of the changes took waayyy too long - there was one moment where Howie was screaming for Becca at a very intense moment - I think about the tapes - and it just kept turning and turning and I was thinking...come on...come on...

Well Becca had to get downstairs from Danny's room.
Lol, yeah I remember that scene and John was really yelling LOUD so I was hoping that she'd get "down" to the living room quickly so she'd see what was wrong!
John Lee Beatty's set for Rabbit Hole definitely was award worthy. But I'm glad Cynthia won. Her win was recognition of the beauty of the play. And her speech was a tribute to David Lindsay Abaire, his writing, and the wonderful cast.
John Lee Beatty has been nominated for 12 Tonys since he started working on Broadway in 1973 and won once, for his first nomination in 1980, Talley's Folly. The Rabbit Hole set was a real celebration of his work. He actually did the set design for the first Faith Healer. Let's just keep hoping we get to see more of his beautiful sets on Broadway. Everyone who saw Rabbit Hole (and The Color Purple, which he was also nominated for this year) got to see how talented he is, and he is obviously well respected in the industry. He's been building for show after show for over 30 years and it doesn't look like he's stopping anytime soon, so here's to more beautiful (revolving!) sets on Broadway!

Yeah I'm sad he didn't win. I was sure that he and Cynthia would at least have a lock on the Tony and in the end it was only Cynthia. He did a great job though and since there are so few awards to go around to all who are talented, he should just be proud of the set he made and how it helped the story of the play.
I'm so glad Cynthia won! She was great and deserved it!
Add: His set is praiseworthy! A beautiful job!

I figured Beatty would be robbed by The History Boys craze.
Rabbit Hole's set seriously deserved to win.
Scenic design and Frances de la Tour...

ANNNNND that post completely misses the point of what that moment of staging and design was all about. David Lindsay Abaire writes about ordinary people in ordinary surroundings having their world turned upside down. In the case of Becca and Howie, they argue quite a bit about the house itself. It's a reminder for both of them about their dead son, but for Howie that's a positive and for Becca, it's a negative. At the moment when Howie is yelling to Becca about the videotape, the spinning of the set gave a very literal setting a surreal quality that highlighted Becca's emotional state at that moment. It was very much intentional - like when something you see and experience every day suddenly becomes unfamiliar or terrifying.
