I don't think Rachel will have been in it long enough by the Tony deadline to be eligible. Saying that, this is inspired casting y'all. I love Rachel York...and will go back to DRS, just for her.

What inspired choices for replacements!
I saw Jonathan as Professor Higgins in My Fair Lady a few years back, and I think he will bring the perfect blend of elegance, arrogance and dry wit to the role with a bit of conscience.
Rachel displayed such great comic timing in Victor/Victoria that I don't doubt she would be awesome in this role. I also loved her in The Scarlet Pimpernel (she was the best Marguerite, IMO) and Dessa Rose. Rachel infuses all her characters with depth, making them seem more real and multidimensional. Although I enjoyed Sherie's performance, I didn't really buy her as this sly and clever con artist. I thought Glenne Headley in the film was much more believable, and Rachel will probably be as well.
I can't wait to see it again!
I love Rachel York! I wish I could see her in DRS! She's an amazing performer.

Rachel is one of the most talented and classy ladies in the business. She'll be wonderful!
I agree with Madison--Glenne Headley was perfection in the DRS movie. Having said that, I will be interested in seeing what Rachel York brings to this role--she was out ill the night I saw "Dessa Rose" , and that was a little disappointing.
For those who have seen Rachel's work--would she have made a good "Lady of the Lake"? I have repeatedly heard praise for her voice and comic abilities.

wendy72,
I don't use the word "amazing" lightly, but it definitely applies to Rachel York. Her voice is splendidly versatile. I have seen almost everything she's done and own all of the CDs on which she sings. She can act and sing anything. Period. She may not always be the right "type" for a role physically, but I have seen her go against type and be brilliant. DESSA ROSE comes to mind in this regard. Too bad you missed her in it.
I have heard Rachel sing rock, pop, jazz, classic Broadway, comic songs, belted numbers and ballads. She is equally at home in any genre. I have no doubt that she could have been a wonderful Lady of the Lake, but personally, I'd rather see her as a leading player. The more time she's on stage, the happier I am.
If you don't own her CD, "Let's Fall in Love," I strongly suggest you get it. I melt every time I play it. You should also get the "Dessa Rose" CD when it comes out so that you can hear her wonderful rendition of "At the Glen." She breaks your heart with it.
Cheers,
lc
I totally agree w/ LC. I saw Rachel in Dessa Rose where half the show she played an old woman w/o any additonal make-up yet it was completely believable. I saw her as Mother in Papermill's ragtime and I bought both the fact that she was a bit older, a mother, and totally understood her dilemma and let me just say her "Back To Before"--woow.
And then I saw her on the V/V tape, and I could not believe it was the same person! To be playing someone so drastically different from the other two characters I saw her play live, I can't believe she wasn't even nominated for the Tony in that part, but IMO she stole the show, she was great.
Having seen her in such diverse parts, I just don't think there's much she can't do.
