I love Sherie but in the last year or so I've become a huuuuge Rachel York fan...I saw her in Dessa Rose and Ragtime, and thought she wonderful in those but then I saw the video of Victor/Victoria, and...couldn't believe it was the same person, she was soo great in all the roles, but did a great job w/ the comedy in V/V. And then I recently saw her in the Kander & Ebb concert and she blew everyone away w/ her rendition of "Maybe This Time" and "And The World Goes Round." She easily got the best ovations of the night and if you read reviews almost everyone agree she was the highlight.
Shine is right, from what I've seen she can really do anything, I'm really excited!
And aww, her and Greg can have a Victor/Victoria reunion!
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
Watch Kiss Me Kate on DVD, or listen to Putting it Together or Victor/Victoria and you'll find that York has all the right tools to pull this role off.
OH NO...I guess she won't be doing the Reprise "City of Angels" after all...I'm so pissed..And Rachel will be fabulous in DRS...
"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"
I am REALLY excited that Rachel will be joining the cast!! I have not seen DRS yet and was hoping to go soon, but now I will wait for her to start - great news in my opinion!

Taylor the latte boy,
I love him, I love him, I love him
I think she is amazing, I had seen her in Victor Victoria, a long time ago. I love her voice and how versatile it is, she can do anything with it. I am gonna try to get myself to NY to see this. I can't wait.
I too became a fan after Dessa Rose and Ragtime and just ADORE her! She, as said before by others, has a fabulous sense of timing and is gorgeous to add! I can't wait to see her!!!
I am, of course, ecstatic that Rachel is stepping into this role. I haven't seen the show yet but will definitely take a trip to see it now with her in it. What a great pair of replacements to join an already top notch cast - Rachel and Jonathan Pryce. Wow.
So glad to see that a host of people agree with us about her talent and versatility. It's great that she'll be back on Broadway.
This is great news! I think Rachel York is just right for this role and will probably, in my opinion, bring more to it than I felt Sherie Renee Scott did.
AMAZINGLY YAY!!! LOVE her, LOVE sherie. all is well

DRS will definately be on broadway next year. Well, i hope it is, cause i just love it.
i think Rachel will give the character something interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing her.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree. ~Dirty Rotten Scoundrels~
There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel. ~Curtains~

Interesting question about the box office for DRS. I always wonder what % of ticket sales are generated by tourists vs. New Yorkers and whether or not they are coming for the "show" or the "stars." I know that neither Jonathan Pryce nor Rachel York are household names like John Lithgow, but was he the main reason people bought tickets to DRS in the first place? Norbert and Sherie are not household names, either, so maybe he was. But I suspect it's the show itself that is the draw. Most people know the Steve Martin/Michael Caine movie very well, so they are probably drawn by the title and subject matter.
Judging by the response in this thread to the recent casting announcement, it seems as though Pryce and York will definitely draw theater savvy audiences, and others will probably still come for the show itself. So I think DRS will do okay and be around for a while. People want an escape these days, and it seems that DRS is providing that.
I, for one, look forward to seeing it with the replacements. It will be very interesting to see their character interpretations and chemistry together. I expect great things from both of them.
