Ramirez as Elphaba?

I was just listening to Spamalot and a thought struck me and I wanted to see what you guys thought... could Ramirez pull off Elpaba... I could see it...

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

probably... but she'll probably be riding her high tides in spam at least until december. especially if she wins...

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

I think she could pull it off with very little effort on her part.

From what I saw in Spamalot, I disagree.

From me?

I don't think her role is Tony worthy but she can act and has one hell of a voice.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

I know she could more than handle the role. I just hope she never even attempts it. She's too talented and a TONY win would make her more well known...far more well known to be a replacement. Not every extremely talented yound Broadway actress should play Elphaba...it's not the role of all roles.

But I have no doubt she could play the crap out of it.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

She was one of the actresses originally considered for the role. I remember her talking about four years ago about going in for a series of auditions for the workshop of Wicked and she said "Oh my God, there is this one song, Defying Gravity, and it is so fierce! I love singing it!" Course, that title meant nothing to me at the time. I would love to hear her sing it now re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

She could certainly play the role, although I'd prefer hearing her sing Glinda. It'd be be more up her alley vocally.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

I think vocally, she can do just about anything. If she wins the Tony for "Spamalot," she'll likely not be interested in replacing anyone in a show that's been running for (by then) almost 2 years. She will (rightfully) be looking to originate something bigger and better than what she's doing now...and good for her for doing so.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

She'd be an amazing Elphaba. But I doubt she'll be into replacing anyone anytime soon.

Alright, this is coming from a Wicked FAN...

Could she do it? Sure. Will she? HIGHLY doubtful. I agree with those who say she should go out and originate more roles. She's certainly got the recognition for it now.

It's funny how, the moment someone is successful on these boards, people immediately start saying, "Could they perform in... *GASP* Wicked?!" Uhm, much as I love Wicked and the female parts in it... I don't really see it as being the mark for all actors to measure up to.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

I think Sara is a super duper goddess who could do anything! After I saw her in Spam, I thought that she could do both roles beautifully. I don't know about her being a replacement in Wicked but I'd love to hear her sing those songs. She's got a little of both Idina and Kristin in her plus something extra special. I adore her and hope that a role worthy of her comes along soon!

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

Wow she would rock. This would truly be inspired casting.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

COULD she do it? Absolutely! I think she's among the most talented on Broadway right now, and I like to think there isn't anything she can't do re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

erm, for the record, a Tony win does not mean you go on to star in XX number of new shows originating lead roles of shakespearian calibre. After that night and the more often than not bump in pay at your show, that award means little more than a piece of PLASTIC you have to dust and having the words "Tony Winner" after your name in bios and articles.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

broadwayguy, you don't think she'll be a huge success after she (most probably) wins the Tony?
Question: Will Esparza win for The Homecoming? BobbyBubby: I hope so. If only for the mental health of many people on this board.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

I agree with andyf, judging from her performance in Spamalot.. I'd say no, she couldnt pull it off vocally.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

She would have been a great Aldonza in LA MANCHA a couple years ago.

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

broadwayguy---I couldn't agree with you more!

If you disagree, read the book "Making it on Broadway: Actors tales of climbing to the top" . People who WON tony's will tell you how they haven't worked in 10 years :)
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

re: Ramirez as Elphaba?

Exactly Stephanie. A Tonu win does not gurantee you work in the future.... just the same as talent does not gurantee that you'll be cast.

Besides, the Tony Awards are based VERY Little on merit and HEAVILY on politics. Occasionally, merit and politics fall in the favor of the same nomminee, but rarely.
