I have an audition coming up and I have come up with a list of all the songs I could possibly do. I have a tennor-bari voice, but the audition is accapela so that doesn't really matter. Please take into considderation "goodness" of the song, popularity/if EVERYONE is gonna do it and other things and tell me the best one from each catagory & why. If a good song isn't there, PLEASE let it out! Thanks SO MUCH!
Upbeat
W/ Anne on my Arm - LA CAGE
Corner of the Sky - PIPPIN
Something's Coming - WSS
You're Nothing Without Me - CITY/ANGELS
Out There - BARNUM
All I Need is the Girl - GYPSY
Extraordinary - PIPPIN
You've/Carfully Taught - SOUTH PACIFIC
Ballad
Just in Time - BELLS ARE RINGING
Miracle of Miracles - FOTR
Now I Have Everything - FOTR
Agony - INTO THE WOODS
On the Street... - MFL
10 Minutes Ago - R&H Cinderella
Johanna - SWEENEY TODD
I Can See It - FANTASTICKS
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH THIS IS HELPING ME!

What show are you auditioning for?
I've got a feeling "Corner of the Sky" from Pippin might be overdone.

I'm auditioning for a performing arts high school
Johnanna?
Never heard of it.
But it sounds interesting.

Good songs for your range, but some of them are overdone:
Corner of the Sky - PIPPIN
All I Need is the Girl - GYPSY
Agony - INTO THE WOODS
On the Street... - MFL
10 Minutes Ago - R&H Cinderella
I would consider Ten Minutes Ago upbeat.
And Miracle of Miracles is for sure an upbeat song.
Oh Priesty, you crazy kidder.
I think your song choices are fantastic, although I don't know how much help that'll be. Great job, and break a leg!

I didn't really know how to separate the 2 catagories but I think of it more as BELT & LESS-OF-A-BELT
I would do Miracle of Miracles and Johanna
I'm a fan of You're Nothing Without Me and Johanna, those would be my picks.
See, I would do "Something's Coming" and "Johanna." I think if you can really own the musical points in "Something's Coming," it'll leave a stronger impression. Updated On: 12/31/04 at 07:54 PM
But Miracle of Miracles gives you more of a chance to really *act* the song.
Great point, Priest.

I agree, Priest, and that's something they're looking for... not just standing there and singing, but i think some of the others could deliver as well (...maybe?) Updated On: 12/31/04 at 07:57 PM
I think that "Something's Coming" gives you a fair opportunity to do so as long as you make a specfic choice. Updated On: 12/31/04 at 07:58 PM
'Something's Coming' would be too similar to 'Johanna' I think.
Priest, do you mean musically? Or just it wouldn't show enough acting range?
Rhytmically, they are similar.
They both start off with the long substained notes.
I feeeeeeeell youuuuu Johaaaaaanaa
Could beeeeeeeeee, Who knooooowwss
Then they get into a faster rhytmic pattern
I was half convinced I'd waken
There's something due any day, I will know right away
The structure is very similar in that way and I feel they echo each other too much.
out of those i really like i can see it.. its a type of song that can show off your voice and show acting... also look at parade

the book musical "Parade" or the Off-Broadway Herman "Parade"?
When you audition for a performing arts high school, originality isn't what they're looking for. They're looking for yourenthusiasm for performing and your talent. They'r enot judging you on the material. This isn't true out in the professional acting world, but it most definately is of a performing arts high school. So BEST advice would be - sing the song you love most and feel most comfortable with, that you feel shows them what it is you do as a performer.
"Agony - INTO THE WOODS"
Isn't that a duet???
bbroadwaybb- Yeah, good point
