My Impressions.
*The bottom 19 really aren't that suprising.
*I am suprised that Fiorello! got as high as it did.
*I suspected Sweeney would be #1, as al the other "candidates" the community has for Best Musical in History (Gypsy, West Side Story) didn't win Best Musical.
But overall, I can see the logic behind why each 10 are the way they are.
I'm surprised FIDDLER and HOW TO SUCCEED did so well...I think the reason REDHEAD is so far down is that people just don't know it at all.

That response, along with the person's who was surprised that Fiorello is so high on the list, is why this is a pointless exercise.
What's the sample size on the rankings - and what did you do with the "can't rate cuz I don't know the show, haven't seen the show"? What show had the most rankings? the fewest rankings?

But pointless exercises is whats we's do best!
I definitly agree some shows would fare better w/ better familiarity. Edwin Drood for example.
1-10 - Legendary Shows
11-20 - Great Shows
21-30 - Shows Accepted as Great, but not seen as often
31-40 - Good shows, but don't have enough exposure, or their quality is questioned for one reason or another
41-50 - Good Jukebox Musicals, recently quality questioned shows, the more remembered forgotten.
51-59 - Just plain forgotten.

Well OF COURSE it's a pointless exercise! None the less, very interesting Munk-- thanks for doing what will no doubt be a thankless job.
And I think it's verrrrry interesting that such a recent show (and beloved) as Avenue Q could only muster #32-- not that I disagree!

Are you aware that both Les Mis, AvQ and the Producers are in there? They have more expsure than practically any other shows.
I can't believe anyone would think Hairspray is better than the Legendary Sound of Music, and Les Mis at 36? There's something seriously wrong with BWWers, for which I shall never trust them again.

Here's my top ten FAVORITES (of those I'm familiar with)...
1. Kiss Me, Kate
2. Phantom
3. Fiddler
4. ACL
5. MFL
6. Guys and Dolls
7. 42nd Street
8. South Pacific
9. Man of La Mancha
10. Evita
Note that this list is NOT of the musicals that I think are technically the best, just what my favorites.

I was making a generalzation on all ten.

Just out of curiosity, how many people submitted ratings?
In total, 30 people voted exactly.
Most entries had 30 votes, a few had 29, some had 28.
In some cases (REDHEAD, RAISIN, WILL ROGERS FOLLIES), there were far less.
It's probably not 100% fair, but there's nothing I could do about REDHEAD and them.
I have a feeling if the professional critics who were able to see all these shows voted, the bottom 10 would be similar.
I never saw REDHEAD, but I have read the script and I know the score...and it's mediocre at best. It's quite boring. I'm sure the Fosse choreography made it spectacular, though.

Well thank you for doing this.

Actually from what I am aware of, REDHEAD was utterly spectactular because of Fosse & Verdon.
Of course it was also a vehicle built up and around for Ms. Verdon's considerable talents (and legs) thus it just wouldn't quiet work without pysically seeing her live.
Of course I'd give my right leg to see her in it and envy those few BWW posters that have seen her in it.
That's what I heard, too.
Unfortunately, most of us will never know.
