from most difficult to simplest, rate the broadway lottos/rushes. your ratings should be based on ease, quickness and probability of getting tickets.
ex:
1. wicked
2. jersey boys
etc.

I'm from out of state, so I buy my tickets in advance online. But I rush when I have a free day.
The Apple Tree (it's closed, but I'll list it here anyway) and Company were the easiest. I went to the box office ten minutes before the show started and I still managed to get tickets.
The hardest was Spring Awakening, which I didn't get a ticket to. I went there when the box office opened, and there was already a huge line.
1 is the hardest, and as the numbers increase the rush gets easier.
1) Wicked
2) Jersey Boys
3) Legally Blonde
4) The Color Purple
5) Avenue Q
6) Tarzan
7) The Drowsy Chaperone

10) Spring Awakening
11) Rent
12) A Chorus Line
13) Chicago
14) 110 in the Shade
15) Frost/Nixon
15) Company
16) Grey Gardens

really, HAIRSPRAY is the easiest? hmm, cool
anyways, all i know is GREY GARDENS and THE PIRATE QUEEN are incredibly easy. you can get there a few hours before the show starts and get an easy rush seat.
great list, by the way, bjh :)
Thanks Dirty_Rottten_Guy. Really, anything between #15 and #22 is incredibly easy. So yah, Grey Gardens and Pirate Queen are really easy, I just put them in those spots based on policy and whatnot (e.g. you can only get one rush ticket per idea at Grey Gardens). I find Hairspray the easiest because basically you show up for the lottery and win. There are never that many people there.
#14, 110 in the Shade, was easy as well - I got there less than an hour before a weekday performance and got a mezzanine ticket.
it was right before the tony noms now... it might have changed by now.

Rent is surprisingly difficult, even this many years after it opened. It still gets a sizable crowd.
The Pirate Queen was easy, minutes before the showtime and we got orchestra seats.
Frost/Nixon wasn't too bad. I got there at noon for an 8 p.m. show, got first row.
A Moon For the Misbegotten was similar to F/N. Noon for an 8 p.m. show, got first row.
Talk Radio and Grey Gardens are really easy. You can pretty much get tix right before show time.
I've tried Wicked many times. But only got in once.
Jersey Boys is definitely do-able. I got there at noon for a 2 p.m. show and got a ticket.
Hairspray is easy. 110 in the Shade is easy (but also remember their rush only begins 1/2 before show time). Journey's End is easy as well.

The luck I've had with RENT seems to be whenever I'm just going for one ticket. Every time I've gone by myself I've won. When I've been with someone else and trying for 2, I haven't gotten it.
Wicked... I or the person I'm with have won twice. Once was totally random ~ my friend wanted to try it on a summer Saturday. I was there at 11:30 and put my name in. She came running up at 11:55 all apologizing for being late, then put her name in. 4th one drawn. The other time it took another friend and myself about 10 times before we finally won on a Friday night.
Ave Q I've tried I don't know how many times and have never won. Based on them only having 12 seats, I think it's one of the hardest.
I've only tried Hairspray once, and I was one of 3 people who didn't win.
Drowsy I seem to have pretty good luck at. I'd say I've won that one (or the person with me) about 80% of the time I try it.
As far as rushing, I'm one of those people who's always early, so I've never had a problem. Unless it's a last minute "Ooh, let's go see a show..." kind of thing. LoveMusik did not have any student rush left last night at 6pm, and this afternoon around noon, I got the last evening student rush.
"Jersey Boys is definitely do-able. I got there at noon for a 2 p.m. show and got a ticket. "
On what planet? Has it really changed THAT much?
Oh, with 110... Student rush, which is whatever's left over at half price does start only 1/2 hour before curtain. BUT they have GENERAL rush ~ mid to rear mezz seats, but still awesome ~ for $26/25 starting when the box office opens.
legally blonde is really that hard? and hairspray the easiest. :-/
"Jersey Boys is definitely do-able. I got there at noon for a 2 p.m. show and got a ticket."
maybe this comment is referring to SRO, not rush?
I remember like a month after Jersey Boys opened, I got rush tickets (with 3 friends) about an hour before curtain.
Those were simpler times...
I'm not the one who ranked them, but I think Legally Blonde got the higher ranking because of the time involved in waiting on-line. Though, based on what I've seen walking by that line and the Spring Awakening line, I'd put them about the same. You don't have to be there as early as for Jersey Boys, but you do have to be there early.
As for Hairspray, I've heard from a lot of people it's the easiest ~ I've even heard it called close to impossible to lose. But like I said, the time I tried it, there were 3 of us who got left out.

I must have lucked out at Chaperone, but I didnt see THAT many people there for Wed matinee, and I think I narrowly missed the ACL rush on a Thursday
I think Drowsy's a lot easier since Sutton left. And I'd think Wednesday matinees would be the eaasiest of all...just because a lot of people are working or in school.
hey i might be actually be going to city today like at 4..
sooo uhh if i do the wicked lottery first and if i lose (haha for the 6th time)
and go to the greys garden rush at 6 will there be tickets still avalible?
im almost certain there will be
i mean, its not a holiday weekend yet or anything, so im sure youll be able to
i went on presidents day weekend around 5 to GREY GARDENS and got a rush ticket in the front mezzanine, so 6 should be fine :)
thanks anyways ^_^
i think the rush for spring awakening is much more ridiculous than legally blonde. why?
i went last saturday for spring awakening after the today show. 9:00... the line was huge 38 people in front of me. and legally blonde for the sunday performance i was like between 25th-30th in the line... pirate queen was easy, but i suggest using the discount code for $35 instead of the rush because your in the mid center row of the orchestra..
Elphie...Check your PMs. :)
yes, check you pm's. :)
if i were to rush legally blonde on a sunday, hoping for a matinee ticket, would i need to be there considerably early?
i lost to the wicked lottery again yay
anyway, about hairspray yes they were giving away tickets for the lottery.. well instead of the lottery give away the tickets..
and greys garden didn't felt rushing out of the theater to run 7 blocks again to catch the bus at 11:00 in port authority. but when i went there, there was tickets still avaiblible for rush
how is rush compared to in the summer? could someone who does it often please PM me so i can figure out a plan for this summer?
i would imagine it would be busier with more students out of school.

I'm concerned about the Spring Awakening line after the Tonys. Currently, I've been getting there around 7:30 and am one of the first in line. But what's going to happen if (and probably when) they win? I'm planning to rush a few weeks after the awards and I'm wondering what time I should get there.
