Today I was really lucky. I was going to do the lottery for HAIRSPRAY but when I got there I saw that there were only a few people on line across the street at JERSEY BOYS so I decided to try for a rush ticket. I got there at 11:55am (box office opens at 12 noon) and got a student rush ticket for the 3pm show!! For some reason the scalpers who had been on line since 5am all of a sudden left the line and everyone else there got seats!
Does anyone think Grey Gardens' rush will be harder after the Tonys?
Wow, Cape Twirl of Doom, that's amazing.
Too bad it wasn't like that last summer.
I was still in shock for a while afterwards. The woman in charge of the line checked the scalpers IDs and there weren't any conflicts so no one knew why all four of them suddenly up and left a few minutes before the box office opened. Very weird.
Loved the show btw! It was so much fun and I'm very glad I finally got to see it!

Were there any understudies in today?
When I did Spring Awakening rush in December I got there at around 2:00 and got two fifth row center orchestra ticket.
i think everything will be a tad harder after the tonys.
Were there any understudies in today?
For JERSEY BOYS? Nope, it was the full cast.
Wow Cape, that really is amazing. You're very lucky! Does anyone think that rush for Jersey Boys will die down a little bit, especially in the first few weeks following the Tonys (specifically in terms of the scalpers)? Just a thought, since they may be heading to the new Best Musical winner. I'm planning on rushing the Sunday after the Tonys, and it would make things so much easier if the scalpers were gone.
question wat is a scapler? anyway i wonder the the same thing SA after the tonys?
well rachel's point was that a new best musical would be titled and so the last (jersey boys) may have the potential of dying down. which is a possibility.
but spring awakening is nominated in THIS year's category. so no it will probably just pick up even more fans.
I've purchased my August Wilson tickets through EBay and Curran Theatre tix through Ticketmaster. I've seen people purchase the $30 nosebleed balcony tickets, then move down to lower/mid mezzanine at the Curran during matinees when it's not sold out.
They said that the Curran rush tix were severely limited view 2nd & 3rd row corner orchestra seats and that the 2nd row offers a nice view of the Jersey Boy's kneecaps and nothing else interesting to see. The music was extremely great, but they wanted to see more of the show than during the standing ovation at the end when "December, 1963" was performed. Most of the performances for them were seated below the speakers as well.
It's just my observation and also what some rush attendees have told me at the show.

"They" were wrong!
Glad I consulted someone here and not listened to the disgruntled attendees that did not like rows B&C at the Curran. I've always wanted to purchase rush tix, but hopefully this coming week it will be possible. Thanks for the info! I'm glad to be part of this message board. That way, I can receive honest opinions from avid theatergoers!
Thanks again!
The rush seats for Jersey Boys at the Curran are the front row, starting at the left of the center block, working to the right. Sometimes they do sell the far corner right seats, which are right under the speakers and afford an excellent view of the spiral staircase, and the box seats, which I haven't been in for this show.
Is the sightline obstructed? Yes. You can't see many things which occur at the back of the stage. However, nothing of drastic importance (unless you consider the monkey dance, Crewe in the soundbooth, bowling or the end of "Dawn" critical to your enjoyment) is missed. It's $25, and you're practically in the show. I feel that the energy you get from sitting that close to the actors more than makes up for not being able to see Crewe's yellow couch, or whatever. People who just have to see everything may not agree.
Thanks so much! More valuable information from seasoned theatregoers! I'll definitely be there for rush tix at 12PM for those weekday matinees when hooky is definitely warranted and Jersey Boys is needed for a "pick-me-up"!
You might want to get there at 10:30 or earlier, not noon.

"Jersey Boys is definitely do-able. I got there at noon for a 2 p.m. show and got a ticket."
Probably during the school year, but not during winter or spring break for college students.
The easiest rushes that I ever did where The Producers where I'd show up a couple of hours before the show and I manage to get tickets and Sweeney Todd. With Sweeney, I got there before anyone else. No one showed up until a couple hours later and I got to see Patti arrive at theatre.
My advice with Jersey Boys is to get there as early as possible and to think postively about it, kinda like that Secret thing where if you say to yourself you're going to get it you'll get it. I'm going back in September during the school year because it should be a whole lot easier.
Anyone know how LoveMusik rush has been latley? Last time I went I had no problems but I'm just wondering if it has since changed.

actually i found legally blonde really easy. i got like perfect seats and i only had to wait like a half hour tops
i rushed jersey boys the day of the BC/EFA flea market.. i was volunteering and decided to try my luck with jersey boys with 2 friends afterwards [at like 10:30am for a 3pm mat.].. we were the 9th, 10th, and 11th people in line.. [which means one was out] but we stuck it out and low and behold a guy in line opted for premium seats.. we gave him a huge hug to say the least, haha. we all got to see it, with the original cast, and it was incredible. =)

Mike, if you've seen Jersey Boys a number of times (I know you have) the rush seats are fine. You can't see what they're sitting on in the jail scene and nobody can see the Dawn stage when the light's in your eyes. You can't see Drew's face when he's singing "Cry For Me" if you're on the left side of the orchestra center. That's about it. Well worth the $25 to sit in the first row with just those few things.
Aniandrewx... I think it's getting more difficult. I know on Friday, they were out at 5:45. And Saturday, they had one evening ticket left at 12 noon. I don't know about matinee or weekdays, but I'd try to be there as close to box office opening as possible.

I'm hoping to do rush for The Color Purple on Saturday, for the evening show. Does anyone know what time rush starts for the 8 PM and how early I should plan on getting on line? Thanks!
I think they do their rushes at the same time...when the box office opens. And from what I've seen, I'd plan on being there 6:30/7 at the latest. And even then I'm not sure that's early enough. It's looked to be crowded. (And some set up in lawn chairs with blankets.)
