I would like to take this moment for a little public service announcement.
DO NOT SEE THIS PLAY EVER!!!! This thing is a giant fvcking mess. I honestly couldn't tell you one good thing about it other than the fact that we got to leave at the end. Most of the audience (what little of it there was) was smart and left at intermission but I thought "this can't get any worse" yet somehow it did. The script is terrible, the acting is laughable, the "songs" are cringeworthy. Maybe the best thing I can say about it is the set was fine.
First let's talk about that sh!tstorm of a script. The playwright (who if he weren't the co-founder of Rattlestick this would never have been released unto the world) thinks he's waaaayyyy more clever than he is. It seemed that he was trying for a Brecht parable but he ended up with dreck. Calling your nefarious characters Senator Forhire, Foowant, Hallie Burton and Bill Z Bub is neither clever nor funny but it did make me roll my eyes very hard. The random "songs" were pretty unbearable too because they were way too on-the-nose like calling things B.S.
Another reason why the songs were so bad was because they were sung very poorly. If the cast was going to be comprised of terrible actors then I would at least hope they could sing. Alas they were terrible actors and singers. I couldn't honestly say I enjoyed one performance in the show. I did, however, feel very sorry for the giant cast because they must know what a stinker of a show they're in. I even felt bad for the human wall movers but at least they got to hide behind the anonymity of the movable walls.
I understand that the playwright is the artistic director of Rattlestick so he was going to produce this sh!t come hell or high-water but I find it pretty damaging to the company's reputation. This definitely makes me think twice about seeing another one of their productions because I couldn't imagine sitting through something that dreadful again. It does seem that not many people are interested in this anyway since only the first four rows of the theatre had people sitting in them. I think it's best just to cut their losses and stop torturing audiences.
