This woman is absolutely incredible!!
Her Live CD is the greatest thing I've ever heard in my life.
She has been the greatest inspiration for me as a singer and performer. She is a goddess.
If you hate Patti LuPone, do not post here. Please.

So no ranting and raving?
Okay, I'll say the one thing I like about Patti LuPone- Her rendition of "Being Alive" on the Celebration at Carnegie Hall CD is incredible, and my favorite out of all the ones I've heard.

Posted: 8/31/04 at 10:24pmSeany - I remember watching Patti sing Don't Cry For Me Argentina at the 1980 Tony Awards... She won me over then and I've been a fan ever since. She really belts Being Alive on the Sondheim Celebration CD too. That woman must have 6 lungs.

I just may be the consummate Patti LuPone nut on this board --- I have seen/heard concerts and shows of close to 100 performances -- there are a few friend of mine that travel the country and across the atlantic to hear her --
People love her or hate her -- I'll hold back now or this could be a VERY LONG POST!

Oh Matt -- you are such a doll....
Ok Seany -- where to start -- I first saw the fab LuPOne in The Robber Bridegroom and was hooked -- of course the true fnaticism came in Evita (I saw her at least 20 times -- she IS EVA PERON)...no one could or can rip through that score like she can -- as amazing as DCFMA is, imagine her in character as Eva -- singing Rainbow High IN THE ORIGINAL KEY!

now follow the rules everyone -- not a bash thread --
My best friend saw her on Sunday at Ravinia in Chicago -- she did the COulda Woulda Shoulda show (which we have seen many times) and said she was in the best voice since LuPOne Live on Broadway (the CA recording) -- I CAN'T wait to hear her and Audra this weekend in Sunday in the Park......by the way -- was anyone at the Carnegie concert of Coulda....when she and Audra did the Garland/Streisand version of Happy Days -- NOT ONCE -- BUT TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i remember the commercials for "evita" when i was a kid... at that time i didn't know whatthehell it was about... fast forward 1996 evita makes it to the big screen... i think madonna is good in the film, but out of curiosity i decide to purchace the OBC to see what the original broadway performers sounded like.
VERDICT: I was totally blown away! Patti is so much better. She rocks! If only that movie had been made sooner! The movie soundtrack doesn't get anywhere near as much play as the OBC. The day I played that CD for the first time Patti gained one more fan

Posted: 8/31/04 at 10:46pmPatti LuPone doesn't sing Rainbow High in the original key?! I know that she can! THAT WOMAN CAN DO ANYTHING...

Posted: 8/31/04 at 10:47pmthank you Marquise -- I will get hate mail for this, but I do have aproblem with ***singers*** getting roles and needing the entire score reworked -- it happened to her with the film (although I admit she was a bit old by the time it got filmed, but hey -- put a gel on the lense) as well as the entire Norma fiasco....

KMF...you are confusing me...
are we talking about Madonna? I'M SO CONFUSED.

well, I was trying to be coy -- but yes -- that's who I was referring to...
Also, you misunderstood about Rainbow High -- she is one of the few stage Evita's to sing it as written.....

yeah i was surprised about Rainbow High. its sung so dull in the movie, didn't do a thing for me. when i first heard it on the OBC the hair on the back of my neck stood on ends.... not too mention Buenos Aires.... i cant even watch the evita movie anymore....
but getting back to PATTI...........shes a GODDESS
#22re: Rave about Patti LuPone here
Posted: 8/31/04 at 10:56pmI knew that would come to get me....but Matt -- you know Patti rules -- even if she is crazy and runs through the street....

PaThe difference between Patti & Madonna can be found in one letter.
Patti = Good
Madonna = God
