In 2 weeks I'll be taking my little sister around the city for the weekend, she'll mostly be in town to attend a sort of Slime convention in CT (I know..) so we'll only have one evening for a show, and I can't decide!

She's never been to a Broadway show in her life, so I want to give her the best experience I can even if it's only for one evening...
So far I've been debating between King Kong, Anastasia, or Once on this Island? She's a pretty mature 12 year old and didn't seem too interested even when I mentioned Frozen.. Recommendations for a 12 year old?
Any input would be super helpful!

Of those three, Once On This Island is probably your best bet. I would honestly swap The Lion King for either King Kong or Frozen. It may be 20 years old, but it’s still pretty impressive, especially for a first Broadway show. Anastasia would be my second choice.

Once on this Island and Anastasia are great choices. I would also suggest Wicked or The Play that Goes Wrong.

I love Anastasia and I definitely think it's something a twelve year old could enjoy. I also second Wicked and Frozen as an option as well as School of Rock.

I also should have mentioned that I'm being selfish and wanting to take her to see something I have yet to see.. which would pretty much rule out anything not from the current season (except for some reason haven't made it to see Anastasia which is why it's in the running!)

It looks like I'll definitely have to consider Once on This Island!

Once on this Island without a doubt.   It's a fairy tale without seeming like one.  (Same source material as Little Mermaid.)  It's a very special production.

Another vote for Once On This Island. I love Anastasia but I do get bored. OOTI is only 90 min and wont disappoint.

My daughter is 11.5 and has seen nearly every kid-appropriate show running right now. Her favorites are Wicked, Anastasia, and Frozen. I thought Anastasia was slow, as others have mentioned. We also both loved Once On This Island, especially with the unique staging. You really can't go wrong with any of the recommendations people have given you. Bonus is that it is easy to get discounted tickets to OOTI. It's also short, which could be great for a first show.

I'm also in CT and have to ask you about this slime convention too, because my kiddo would go nuts for that!

I second Once on This Island! I actually fell asleep during Anastasia. The costumes in that were lovely and the talent was good, but the story is your standard Disney tale. My teen was also underwhelmed by it, and said that felt more like something you would see in a theme park show then a full on Broadway production. Once on This Island is immersive, moving, beautiful and not something that you would easily see replicated elsewhere. Would definitely choose that over Anastasia!

My daughter is also 12 and has seen a number of shows this past year.  She really enjoyed School of Rock, Phantom, My Fair Lady, Hamilton, and the Play that Goes Wrong.  She was pretty neutral to be honest on Come From Away (thought the music all sounded Scottish and all the same).  She also wasn't very keen on OOTI.  She loved Bronx Tale (since closed), and really loves the music to DEH.  She really also wants to see Wicked.

My 12-year-old sister loved Wicked, Waitress, OOTI, DEH, and Hamilton when we saw them.

12 year olds are pretty hip these days. You'd be surprised.

Thank you everyone, I decided to get tickets to OOTI!! I'm very excited, and maybe wouldn't have made the right decision without all of you :)

I don't know much about it, other than it's called "Slime Bash 2." I believe it's near Stamford? You can probably google some more info! These kids are crazy with slime these days.

Thank you! Yes, the slime trend is insane! I can't believe there's an entire slime convention!

Enjoy OOTI :)
